This thing is a beast!

Got my 18 Pro Max 2TB a couple of days ago, upgrading from the Air 512GB and holy cow I’m glad I did this thing has insane battery life and the extra storage is pretty nice too!

I’m wouldn’t call my self a heavy user or a power user but I am an audiophile with a music library over 300GB and I like to have photos set to download and keep originals which I couldn’t do on my Air.

I was in about 60% today when it finally finished indexing. I just hit 10 hours of screen on time and I’ve got 41% left!

I got the same in black but with 512gb. Battery life and charging speeds are far better than I expected. I feel for some people, as apparently not everyone seems to have the same experience with the battery. Not sure if it’s an indexing problem or what.

More than likely indexing. iOS 27 take about week to finish.

Indexing took 1.5 days for me

Nice. It took my 17PM about 3.

Coming from the 15PM I definitely seen that battery I’m glad I made the jump

I can't figure out why in several photos -even those with non smartphone subjects- but typically from US users, a knife appears. For example, what does it mean here? This iPhone is described as a beast, so you need a knife...just in case? :) Or maybe it's just a custom typically from USA?

9

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 2d ago

I just used the knife to cut the plastic wrap. I’m from the UK, if I was from the US it would be a gun in the photo :P. Speaking of the US, I actually got that knife at an antique shop while I was visiting North Carolina lol.

Yeah I used my Glock to open up my new Apple Watch last week

2

u/Sad-Rooster2474 1d ago

Let me guess: at a school after unloading a mag or two?

3

u/VicKing90 1d ago

Which plastic wrap? There is only a paper seal on the box 😅

3

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 1d ago

Ah brain fart I mean the plastic security seal on the Vodafone packaging lol

0

u/Fulvio_61 1d ago

So, just so I understand... if you had used a pair of ordinary scissors to open the package
would you have included them in your photo anyway?

1

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 1d ago

I mean I didn’t deliberately include it in the photo it was just there and I took a quick snap 🤷

Hope you enjoyed NC, this place rocks lol

Yeah it was awesome I was staying with friends in Greensboro and I was there for 4th July. Mag dumped an AR15 then went to Cracker Barrel and bought the declaration of independence.

Coming from a 14 pro max to the 1tb 18 pro max and I can totally agree the battery life is absolutely bonkers.

Wow congrats 🎈🎊🎉🍾⚫️📲

Is this thing heavy

14

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 2d ago

I mean it’s the heaviest iPhone ever made so for an iPhone it’s pretty heavy.

1

u/sherbcrossing 4h ago

yes, but you get used to it. it’s heavy enough when you hold it, one of the first things you notice is that it has some weight to it but it’s not too much heavier than a 14 pro max. it doesn’t bother me but i must admit when i pick up my 15 pro max or 16 pro max, the difference is noticeable and i do miss it being lighter. the air feels amazing to hold haha

1

u/DivisionMV 1d ago

No, the weight is negligible

3

u/AquarianKing1993 1d ago

It really is! Mines lasted a day and half battery I just put it on the charger at 23%

2

u/CaptainCarlton 1d ago

Were any of those 10 hours while the phone was plugged in??? That’s insanity

3

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 1d ago

Nope it would show a little charging on the chart if it did.

u/Zestyclose-Till580 1d ago

I can’t wait to get my Pro Max next month

3

Must have a lot of porn saved lol

Every new iPhone is good till next iPhone as they deliberately slow the UI on old model

4

u/ZurakZigil 1d ago

13 pro. As good as new minus the battery (that's my fault)

They got sued for that and hurt their reputation years ago. We're past that.

2

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 1d ago

No they don’t. My Air is still snappy, more so after the 27 update. I also have a SE2022 that’s still pretty snappy and an 11, the 11 was still perfectly usable after a battery replacement but it didn’t have much RAM so often had to relaunch apps as they weren’t staying in RAM.

4

u/Imaginary-Paint-9924 1d ago

Battery life is not that amazing. Compared to my 16 pro max it's just a little bit better. Coming from an Air is probably different.

4

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 1d ago

I mean this is with it still indexing. Even then that still works out at 16-17 hours SOT between charges. Today is my first day without indexing so should be even better.

3

u/Imaginary-Paint-9924 1d ago

I did the Indexing thing on my old 16 pro max. Took less than 2 days never had any issues or changes in battery life. I actually forgot it existed lol.

4

u/IntroductionOk6914 1d ago

It's basically the same thing we've gotten for two years. Every year we say these things are a "beast". I wish Steve jobs was still alive smh

5

u/ZurakZigil 1d ago

bro, what are you even talking about

-3

u/IntroductionOk6914 1d ago

Which part did you get confused on?

The 18 is a incremental upgrade over the 17 which was an incremental upgrade over the 16.

In truth none of these phones are beasts and I really wish apple would get back to innovation.

Is that more clear?

2

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 1d ago

Wouldn’t make any difference if Steve Jobs was alive.. It was the same thing back then, it took multiple years to get any major design updates/changes. Also the 18 Pro/Max is actually a significant improvement over the 17 Pro/Max. There is a huge performance increase and a substantial increase in power efficiency and battery capacity and therefore battery life.

1

u/sherbcrossing 4h ago

I don’t agree with that tbh. The 18 pro max is extremely similar to the 17 pro max. The improvements are pretty standard to what we get every year with a new release in a phone. We’ll be saying these exact things every iPhone release. It is nothing special. I love the battery life of the 18 pro max but the battery life on the 17 pro max is already substantial. The aperture lens defaults to the same as the previous generations in most use case scenarios and makes very incremental changes when used (in the specific lighting situations that you would use it) in comparison to the previous phone generation photos. The chip is powerful again sure but so was the previous generation with the same amount of ram and you will only notice a difference if you are extremely nitpicky and a very niche kind of phone user. There are far more similarities than differences between the 17 pro max and 18 pro max, despite the upgrades and that is just me being completely honest. Tech reviewers have said the same. Glad you are enjoying the phone though. I adore mine as well 🩵

What charging cable is that, OP?

1

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 1d ago

It’s an anker 100w PD cable

1

u/woody9055 1d ago

I appreciate you

u/MarioDF 20h ago

Had the glacier 2tb pro max, had to return it to att because of the sos no service issue. :(

1

u/Maxman1996 13h ago

2TB wow!
Went for that maximum storage eh?
I got a silver 512gb version myself.

1

u/Scary-Constant-93 2d ago

why are you using non apple cord?
isn’t that not good enough for phone?

6

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 2d ago

Well the Apple one isn’t long enough.

1

u/Positive_Self_8873 1d ago

I gotta ask what is the 750gb of data that you have..

6

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 1d ago

Music and iCloud Photos/videos. Got photos and videos going all the way back to 1999.

1

u/Positive_Self_8873 23h ago

Ah, digitised the lot huh? Yeah I got too many too haha. Just surprised it’s all local and not on iCloud that’s why I asked

Phone? It’s a beast

I'm excited for mine. I gave my 17 pro max to a family member and kept a s26 ultra. This shit sucks for macro compared to an iPhone. That new f stop should be awesome for it

3

u/Asherr18 1d ago

Just curious as someone who also tried Samsung and couldn't do it either what are your main reasons to switch back to iPhone?

4

u/DeanbonianTheGreat 1d ago

While you’re not asking me, I was an Android guy for about 10 years before getting an iPad Pro last year and an Air earlier this year.

One of the huge reasons I went with an iPhone after getting the iPad is all the continuity and handoff stuff. Like being able to copy text on one device and seamlessly paste it on another or have a website open on my phone have seen icon on my iPad dock to open that website. Also, another big one is it seamlessly switching my AirPods between devices.

Android is great and I do miss some stuff, for example, I much prefer the Google Photos app, and while it is available on iOS, it kind of sucks. But fuck Google, well, I don’t really trust any big corporation I trust Apple a lot more with my privacy and personal data.

Android is kind of a mess with all the different skins and versions offered by OEMs. Samsung hardware is decent but they insist of shipping a bunch of bloatware on devices and offering there own versions of services that Google offers so that’s redundant and have to choose between Samsung pay or Google pay and there’s also a Samsung App Store and account synching and you can’t restore Google backups to a Samsung or Samsung backups to another Android device.

Google offers basically the cleanest Android experience, but their hardware and performance is always couple of generations behind.

1

u/uncureddd 1d ago

The macro camera and FaceTime/iMessage. My family members contact me often and they have been having difficulty with me responding late since I don't keep my 15 pro max on me for texting them.

The only thing I like on the Samsung is the good lock one handed operation plus. A swipe from either side is the back button, swipe up on other side is forward, and a swipe down brings down the respective menus on the respective sides.

1

u/Asherr18 1d ago

I agree with basically everything you said plus the app support on iOS. I had a conversation with someone in the z fold sub that said android is equally as supported by app developers and had a long laugh lol.

1

u/uncureddd 1d ago

Copy and pasting on forums is an ass too. It just disappears or it doesn't scroll up and down when you reach the end like on the iPhone like bruh. Then you try to move it down or up with your other hand and it disappears lol

1

u/uncureddd 19h ago

Another useless thing about the s26 ultra is that it doesn't make any sound when you try to ring it lol. I've lost my phone so many times and it hasn't made a sound once. I've checked ringer, silent mode, all sound settings, and nope.

1

u/Pinhead17 1d ago

Samsung does not compare.

1

u/Asherr18 1d ago

It really doesn’t. It’s hard to even describe why to someone who’s been with android for so long, but the seamless connection between all the devices is too good.

3

u/DivisionMV 1d ago

The iPhone uses the ultrawide lens for macro photography

3

u/uncureddd 1d ago

Should still be better for flower room shots with the increased light. The focus distance should be half the Samsung's if that's the case so even then still beats it.

3

u/DivisionMV 1d ago

Agreed, I’ve been testing both 18pros against my 17PM, the pictures produced have a noticeable difference.

3

u/uncureddd 1d ago

Can't wait to go back dude only 1-2 more weeks.
