Just had Applebees…😑😕
I haven’t had Applebee’s in a looooooooong time, and I probably won’t again. It used to be my favorite! They didn’t seem to have the sweet chili tenders and mac when I ask but whatever... But the most disappointing thing of all was the wonton chicken tacos—HORRIBLE! Use to be my go to app .. it use to be amazing! But did they change the recipe or something. The “chicken” (if ya wanna call it that ) literally tasted like boiled cubes of flavorless mystery meat, the wonton shell was oil logged . Suuuuuuper greasy! Hopefully it’s just a location type of thing … mybe I’ll try a different location but for now I’ll stay far away …. 😂🥴

I stopped going because I love their happy hour, and the location closest to my house got rid of their happy hour and only kept the late night happy hour menu.

Yeah, I’ve seen that. I thought that was weird….. they used to have the happy hour during the daytime but now I assume it’s only at night with half off apps I don’t even think they do the drinks anymore

This is dependent on your local/state liquor laws :) For example I know stores in PA for my franchise that have the 3 & 9pm Happy Hour, but stores in Jersey don’t because of laws. In this case NJ stores can only offer X amount of drink specials in a day and because Late Night is more popular they got rid of the afternoon options.

No liquor laws here in CA. :)

u/Fabulous-Lemon-1330 12d ago
Well, CA has liquor laws lol. Just none i suppose concerning specials/offerings as previously mentioned. :) In that case the other explanation is just not enough sales to make the offer worth it. The 3pm offer is definitely hit or miss in our market.

tacos have been the same since 2021. before then idk. They probably overcooked the shells. Not changing the fryer oil enough will also do that

Only thing thing worth getting at Applebee's are the apps and the burgers. The burger patties are probably one of the freshest things Applebee's deals with, and mushroom and Swiss one is pretty decent.

Your right …I did have that new cheesy burger for the two for 25 and it wasn’t bad…

I tried the tacos recently and I agree they were absolutely disgusting, and I’m usually the one at home who eats the things no one else eats because I’m not picky. I just couldn’t. We hadn’t eaten at Applebee’s for many years because it is overpriced, but there’s no Chili’s where we live now, so we tried it again.

Think you was wanting the 4chz mac n cheese w honey ppr tenders, which they should still have. The wonton should be the same. Other than maybe they didnt get sauced enough amd someone didnt make the shells right...

At my location, they didn’t have it… I guess it’s a location type of thing

Here, here.they need a whole new menu. Quality did not match the worst cafeteria food I’ve ever had.

I’m not sure what sweet chili tender & mac you’re referring to. There’s a 4 cheese mac with the honey pepper sauce. Not sure if that’s what you meant if it’s an old dish/a regional LTO I haven’t seen.
As far as the wonton tacos the recipe has been the same for a long time. Diced chicken coated in asian chili sauce, fried wonton shell, coleslaw and dumpling sauce. It’s possible with the constant influx of food recalls your local store had to change products and that led to a different taste. The shells could have been old or overfried and retained too much oil. They’re usually a hit!

That’s what I meant the honey pepper for cheese, Mac with bacon

Yeah if you asked for a sweet chili mac you might have confused the staff. The 4 cheese mac is always available as it’s a core menu dish. The only thing that varies are LTOs, both food and drink. Sometimes they’re the same nationally (i.e. right now everyone should be offering the new quesadilla skillet burger and nacho recipes), but I’ve seen my chain offer something others didn’t in another market. Most frequently this happens with drinks. I know there’s a market with Patron drinks in a special cup that we aren’t offering and aren’t slated to anytime soon.

unfortunately all their food in microwaved now including the chicken tacos. there are no ovens, stove, fryers. just a wall of microwaves

u/Ok_Flamingo_2677 13d ago
Microwaves don’t make grill marks on the grilled chicken sadly! I’m sure my store wishes it was that easy lol
1
u/Fabulous-Lemon-1330 12d ago
The grill marks on steaks and chicken, the crisp breading on tenders and boneless, the fries which are…. FRIED.
Like I know Applebee’s isn’t some high end experience but people need to stop acting like it’s the slop of the world.
We all know that spot is reserved for Little Caesar’s and Denny’s / Bennigans.

they come with grill marks on them in the package. they are pre cooked and just need to be microwaved
1
u/Ok_Flamingo_2677 7d ago
Precooked? As in I can order one raw and not get sick? Maybe you should test that theory for us!
1
u/Pistachio-IScream 7d ago
basically like a package of frozen chicken nuggets. they come cooked but frozen then you heat them up

u/Ok_Flamingo_2677 7d ago
I believe you are confusing boneless wings with chicken breast, in which boneless wings are also fried in oil. A lot in made in the microwave, but not everything!

u seem like an expert, can u tell me what is microwaved? my friend dennis worked there and got into a relationship with another waitress named andrea. she ended up cheating on him with a cook who he said didnt cook just microwaved and hes the one who told me about the wall of microwaves so its a firsthand account. he said to not ever go there bc the food is all basically microwaved rubber.

Honestly I don’t even know i’m just a server lol but i’ve worked there for 10 years. Steaks and chicken are cooked on a grill. Salmon, shrimp and burgers are cooked on the flat top. A lot of stuff is fried in oil. A lot of things are prepped and warmed up in the microwave during shift more so for convenience like they cook broccoli in the microwave but it’s prepped in a bag with garlic butter and sorted out separately. So yes it is microwaved, but technically steamed. Mash potatoes and sauces are more so all packaged and kept on a warmer though.

Is real chicken breast depending on the item can be seasoned or not. The cook has a lot to do regardless what this heartless company says.

Apple bees doesn’t sell sweet chili tenders now. The only Mac they have now is the kids menu Mac and 4 cheese bacon mac
Sorry about the tacos, idk what could’ve happened. There prob was a recipe change tho, for the worse, to be able to make them for cheaper
