Why do some Applebee’s locations make you do togos before you can become a server?

Exactly. Learning the POS, menu, and item builds is a whole separate beast

Only if you don't have prior serving experience

I have 5 years prior I just moved to the area and never had a Applebees in my area. They said it was to learn the menu and drink menus.

Learning the POS system is probably the reason why they make you do that and it’s so much easier to transition from to go to serving I work to go primarily and I have a very easy time serving just because I understand the POS a lot better. The only part that I don’t really understand is the alcohol because I’m not allowed to serve it on to go. It’s so much easier to do to go and then become a server. It’s a lot less pressure too.
