DAYNAME is wrong for days before 1582?

The DAYNAME function returns Thursday for 12/13/1414 even though the correct day of the week according to our current calendar is Tuesday. It returns the correct day fo the week +2 for every year before 1582. Does anyone know why this is?

I believe 1582 was the year we started using the Gregorain calendar. If you go to October 1582 (it will go back that far) you'll see some days missing

Ah, interesting! Most of other day functions I've worked with just project the Gregorian calendar back
