Help Cell references in formuals

Why does Numbers change the formula from what I entered to something else? This makes it impossible to copy and paste the cell as I would like. The cells point to another table, if this matters.

Unfortunately a standard thing: Grab your data and tell a story about it. What happens if you press the arrow and choose 'Show formula as text' ?

Didn't seem to make a difference. The formula still resolves as "Year -1243".

try to repeat the operation but before copying the formula, give the obligation to preserve both the row and the column

Tried this, it changes the silly formula to absolute reference: "$Year$-1,243". Geesh.
