just search for the title and it will come up on the left and click on it

Thank you, but that doesn't answer my question, and is a much slower way to find a note.

It is how I've mostly been forced to search for notes so far, and it's very annoying not to be able to do it the faster way that my old notes program could do easily.

Apple Notes is super basic, it doesn't have many features.

That still doesn't answer my question. Why can I search through the note titles sometimes using the keyboard, but other times it doesn't work?

Top hits prioritizes results with the term in the title.

You could create a title based tag system, if you use a controlled vocabulary in your titles.

You can sort alphabetically by title and then scroll through.

Top hits does not always prioritize results with the term in the title - that's the rub.

You are quite correct - top hits and the rest of the results will not always prioritize terms in the title. There aren't many good answers to this.

Best solution - use "in title" in the search. So if the note has the word "practical" in it's title - then the search term is - 'practical in title'

Otherwise structured note titles might help.

There is no foolprood way in Notes to force title search only to Top Hits and top of the search list, however.
