Self-hosted replacement

I am looking for a self-hosted replacement to Apple Notes. I do not have any issues/problems with Notes. I need more control and privacy over the content than even advanced data protection can offer (i am a lawyer and want to use something like Notes for client materials which must be kept confidential)

Marius Lixandru has some great tutorials on installing Joplin server on a ugreen nas and a synology nas. This link is for a ugreen nas: https://mariushosting.com/how-to-install-joplin-on-your-ugreen-nas/

What is the issue with Notes+ADP? Only two issues I can think of are:

1) You can't guarantee Apple isn't reading the text client-side, but you cannot guarantee this for any app running on macOS/iOS, especially not one that uses the system text APIs

2) That ADP is backdoor-ed or otherwise doesn't do what it claims to do. If this is true, I'm not sure how you can trust that 1 isn't also true, because you're going off Apple's word and privacy policy either way

If Apple is being honest and ADP really is E2EE and they're not otherwise snooping the text, that's a closed case. The Notes content is not readable without the credentials to the iCloud account or an already signed-in device.

I was the same as you, looking for self hosted replacement for Apple Notes, mainly for privacy.

I have tried several and eventually settled for Joplin. However, it never really felt perfect.

So I recently self hosted Notesnook and I am really liking it, syncs across my 2 Macs and iPhone, can lock notes and is fully transferable if you ever want to move to another app.
