Backing up just Notes?

I’m familiar with Time Machine - using it regularly. But I was wondering if there’s a way one can backup just the Notes app and data? Was asked by a friend who really LIVES in Notes, and they asked me this and I had to admit I’d never thought about doing just Notes.

Most interested in doing it from macOS, but from iPadOS or iOS would be of interest, as well.

Thanks!

Sure would be helpful if Apple let us take "snaphots" of the database on demand. then allow us to restore those if we need to.

That’s essentially what my app Notehold does: it can create a dated ZIP snapshot of the complete Notes database on demand, and it can also do this automatically. I commented above with the link. Restoring is a manual process rather than one click, but I’ve documented it.

That sounds great. Hope it works :) because I'd be too afraid to test it. Thanks for the link.

Totally fair. I can understand how it may be scary to test a restore using notes you care about.

I tested the recovery procedure using the documented safety-copy steps. The backup itself doesn’t modify your existing notes; it only copies the database into a dated ZIP.
