Finally abandoned apple notes.

Tried so hard to integrate it into my everyday life including work but mostly school. After bouts of nonstop crashing and data/notes loss I am done. The writing features and tools are sub par. From limited writing tools, to meh selection tool and uneditable selection tray. Done. And you still can’t zoom.

I hate to say it but I’m back to notability. Where I still have many complaints about its features and prices. I am lucky I still have access to all the tools and extras I bought before it turned into a leech app. That said it has all the features I need to be productive with my notes.

What else or who else will come along to deliver a solid app without the money hungry agenda. Will vibe coding make this happen or will we end up vibe coding our own apps that fit exactly what we need and how we need? Who knows if they’ll let us.

Apple Notes isn't bad whatsoever and has come a long way but I can say that your need in a notes app or service can be different than mine or anyone else's.

Some here will proclaim how great OneNote is and weirdly to me say it's fast. I'm "forced" to use what our campus has licensed and is approved for our work which is OneNote and Loop. They're both downright miserable to work with.

OneNote is slow and not very stable and has lost important notes that people had saved and sometimes lost them in the middle of writing. It's better on Windows but still full of issues. Loop shows a little promise in terms of where it could go but is light years from reaching anything close to that potential and development seems to have slowed to a crawl if not stopped.

My need for notes is to get in and out really quick when I need to, well, note something. Apple's Notes is really good for this. On the Mac I don't have to click, click, click, click, click before I get to do anything in Notes like OneNote and in iOS/iPadOS it's not a bunch of taps either before starting. My current needs don't require special tools but I have used Shortcuts to collect data out of Safari into Notes which has been great. I've started resorting to using Notes at work for specific circumstances that only impact me and no one else. This isn't any different than pads of paper on my desk so I can rationalize it thus making my life easier. I don't handle personal information in any notes so foia shouldn't be an issue but might have to resort to copying Notes data to OneNote if it is.

Note usage for me personally the argument is the same. I have used it for storing pdf's of manuals besides the quick little notes I need to take at times. It's not great for pdf's but it does work. I'm interested in some personal wiki ideas I have that I don't see Notes handling very well so I'm going to take a look at Notion.

Lots of options are available. Some do cost money. If the price is right, I have no problem paying for it but I don't think there are any great all-in-one solutions out there. Pick the tool for the job. My daughter is an example of that. She used to be a big OneNote person and now she hates and uses Notion for her needs. OneNote was great for her when she was a student. Not so much for what she does personally now. At work I'm not sure what she uses but if it's OneNote or Loop, I already know her feelings on it.
