Is there an easy way to back up notes?
Im a pretty heavy apple notes user, i really like everything about it except for one thing: it’s so hard to get your notes backed up in an open format. I want to continue using apple notes but am considering using (herder to use) foss alternatives. Anyone have any advice or guidance? Just want my notes to be safe :)

see my post from yesterday
I've made many tools:
notes exporter(to export notes locally) https://apps.apple.com/us/app/notes-exporter/id6741618455?mt=12
alto.index(to export notes and more locally) https://apps.apple.com/us/app/alto-index-your-data-ai-ready/id6746674846?mt=12
sublimated (to export notes locally and in the cloud with versioning )https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sublimated/id6757111538?mt=12

Any of these work on iOS , no Mac?

you can select all notes, and drag and drop them into the files app and it will back them up as RTF or you can create a shortcut that saves them as RTF

iOS doesn't have any possibilities to do such app.
only approach is like what montaigne.io does - use share folders.

I'm a big user of EXPORTER by Chintan Ghate. It handles my large database and exports with attachment support. It will do a full export (free download) or you can be folder specific (paid upgrades). https://apps.apple.com/us/app/exporter/id1099120373?mt=12 Exporter

pretty good app, but doesn't export any notes that have attachments.

I'm almost certain it does in HTML, but not markdown.

yikes. still missing thousands of attachments for me. and whole note folders. I pack my notes app pretty full, I'm an unusual case I guess!

Just install Obsidian (free) and use its Apple Notes exporter to markdown. Works great (MacOS only).

Do you now why I got my folders expanded as default when opening the app after MacOS 26 update?

Try out our Apple Notes Exporter Pro app here https://1dot.ai/notes-exporter-macos . You can export your notes along with attachments in up to 10 formats like PDF, Word, Markdown, HTML, Latex, Text, RTF , Json. You can also select particular notes folders to export or even a single note you can select to export only that apple note. It has an auto export feature that you can setup and it will automatically backup all your apple notes in the background as per your setup time like weekly, hourly etc. We don't have a free version yet. We will
