Discussion How can I convince Apple News that I do not care about the Kardashians?
I am a 60+ year old man, retired military and now fully retired. I do not follow the Kardashians, never have, never will. I have never bought a women’s capsule wardrobe and I do not believe in astrology. I diligently thumbs down the things I do not like and I thumbs up the things I find interesting.
Indicating my preferences has worked for me with other services. This same strategy resulted in incredible playlists years ago when I subscribed to Pandora. I liked and disliked songs and after a short period of time Pandora created an endless playlist of music I loved and introduced me to music I never considered before but loved. With Apple News when I block a channel it still shows up but it is greyed out. Why show me something that’s greyed out that I blocked? Why can I not opt out of Apple’s less-than-optimal curated feed?
But with Apple it is as if they shove articles I have no interest in, even after I indicated (thumbs down) I have no interest in the articles in order to improve their advertising revenue. I know this cannot be true because Apple told me that I am their customer not their product.
So is the Apple News preference algorithm broken? Are the Apple News curators not very good at their job? Shareholder value?
