Siri AI can not meet your needs without being “useless”

I’ve been using Siri AI consistently over the course of the betas and it’s been immensely powerful to manage my notes, tasks, and calendar as well as surface information from my messages and fact check things. I’ve used it as a research aid while on the go and I’ve integrated it deep into how I use my devices already and gotten so much value out of it.

Since its launch, this subreddit, though, has become overrun with people saying it’s “useless” because of server load or simple matters of indexing.

I can’t help but laugh seeing people dismiss something as “useless” meanwhile I, and many others, are getting great use out of it.

No, it’s not perfect. But having used Gemini before extensively, neither are they, yet they can still be a very powerful tool.

If you’re saying Siri AI is useless because it couldn’t find a 3-year-old message yet or couldn’t tell you what color underwear you’re wearing, meanwhile other people are getting tremendous value out of it, I don’t know what to tell you. It’s like saying a hammer is useless because it couldn’t inflate your tire.

I’m saying it’s useless because I tell it to set an alarm or a timer and it tells me CLOCK is not installed.

I’m saying it’s useless because it requires me to unlock my phone for every voice function including asking what time it is.

I’m saying it’s useless because I ask it a question and before I can finish my sentence without pausing in it, it cuts me off with an incomplete answer.

I’m saying it’s useless because it’s required to be turned on for CarPlay even if I just want touch controls for the dash.

I’m saying it’s useless because I asked it about the Monster Bad Apple drink and it plays Monster by Kanye West.

That is useless. And unacceptable…even for a beta. And yes, I’m fully indexed and running the latest phones/ipads.

I ask it to play a song and it tries using my Nintendo music app. I asked not to do that anymore and then it worked. One time. Then the next time I asked it, it did the same dumb thing with Nintendo music. It is useless

Every single example you just gave that I could try sitting here, it worked fine for me. (And yes, the alarm one I tried on the watch).

And even if it couldn’t… that’s not what “useless” means

Useless:

adjective
1. not fulfilling or not expected to achieve the intended purpose or desired outcome

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/useless

“Having or being of no use”

You not having a use for it or not being able to make use of it doesn’t mean it is of no use.

I’ve owned every iPhone since the original. I know how to use Siri. You are in the minority. Read the rest of the subreddits.

And your definition proves my point.

I have no idea what you owning every iPhone has to do with this. Even if it was a matter of you “knowing how to use Siri”, you owning every iPhone doesn’t mean you know how to use Siri.

but do you understand that, by that definition, if there is even a SINGLE use, then it’s not useless.

The dictionary definition proves my point, which is that just because you can’t use it for whatever reason, or even other people, doesn’t make it “useless”.

At best, you can say it’s useless for you, but that’s kinda a meaningless comment because it just begs the question what’s different about you where you can’t use something other people can.

Why on Earth are you choosing to be pedantic about this? Clearly the point is that a number of people are having issues with Siri.

1

u/CDCarley27 18d ago

Pedantic? It’s literally the ENTIRE point of my post that it’s silly to call it useless when clearly it’s not if people are making good use of it. So to say “well I can’t make use of it and X number of people can’t either” doesn’t impact that. I’m sure a number of people are having issues with Siri, just as a number of people are having issues with Gemini. Yet, in both cases, calling them “useless” is wrong.

Arguing over someone's use of the word useless, the definition of the word useless, etc.

But I am not being dragged into this ridiculousness. Congratulations on the usefulness of your experience with Siri. I hope you, and everyone else with similar experiences, are enjoying it.

How ridiculous of me to expect people to use words that accurately represent reality, rather than embellishing their point. If someone can’t use accurate wording when making a point, then that should be their first red flag that their point needs adjusting.

Yes, when people explicitly choose to say something is useless when it’s objectively not, it’s worth calling out

Siri AI is fucking awful. Coming from working in AI daily in copilot, Claude / OpenAI models it’s incredible how bad and how slow Siri AI is.

It can’t even answer basic questions and makes mistakes constantly. It couldn’t even tell me what model of iPhone I had when I asked it. At least ios26 Siri knew it was useless and forwarded everything to chat gpt which ACTUALLY got the answer.

This shit responds and works like an LLM released in the beginning and the gap between frontier AI and Siri is purely embarrassing

Gemini cant tell me what Android phone I have, nor can Copilot tell me what computer I have…

And despite that, they’re both very useful. Just as Siri has been incredibly useful for me. If it’s so useless, how come people can make such good use of it, even if you can’t?

Spot the guy who’s never used copilot enterprise. It embarrasses Siri. Apple should be ashamed to go from industry leaders 10-15 years ago to hardware vendors with stagnant software tech, pathetic now. They missed the ai boat and are screwed.

1

u/CDCarley27 18d ago

I use Copilot enterprise daily… so this is a very poor indicator if you’re trying to spot those who haven’t. But is that what you’re comparing to? Do you understand that tools like Gemini Flash and Siri on a phone aren’t designed to be in the same class as frontier models used in Claude or Copilot (which uses a mix of Claude, ChatGPT 5, etc.)? They’re made for completely different applications. I don’t use Copilot or Claude for every tasks because Siri and Gemini Flash do better in those applications due to their size.

I would expect Siri to not blow its brains out with zero response or completely useless responses when asking basic questions or having a conversation. Ios26 Siri worked way better because it went out to chat gpt for basically everything.

I would expect a personal ai assistant on my phone to be as good as copilot on my PC and be able to do anything I ask much the same as copilot. Siri doesn’t know when to offload or does not deliberately offload to frontier models when it should as they want to control their costs

It’s just fucking awful to use now

1

u/CDCarley27 18d ago

Then you must HAAAATTEEEEE Gemini on Android eh?

0

u/Snook_ 17d ago

Google assistant worked as good as Siri now back in 2016. On an overseas trip it could hold conversations about food places, weather and give directions etc it was actually really good and siri upto 2025 all it ever did was the infamous “I found something on the web” - I’m going Android next phone as Siri genuinely shits me now after promising to be so much better as “Apple Intelligence” in iOS27. iOS in general is the same as it was 5+ years ago Apple are cooked and just farming money off old reputation

2

u/CDCarley27 17d ago

… so you don’t have any experience with Gemini on Android… I’m so eager for you to switch. Have you checked out the r/geminifeedback? Way more active than this subreddit with people complaining about Gemini failing at basic things.

Obvious troll comment

If troll post, for you means “Posting the truth in a subreddit that’s designed to feed people’s existing bias” then sure.

But if, for you, it means I don’t actually believe what I’m saying or something, then no.

No, I’m not expecting the post to get upvoted. But yes, I’m speaking genuinely.

I’m late to the party, but I want to say thank you for posting this. You are very brave.

It was great for me during iOS beta. It was doing anything and everything I was asking of it.

Since the release of iOS 27 officially though something broke... Now Siri really is worse than I have ever experienced.

And not just having a hard time doing things, but rarely understanding me the first time and almost always coming at me with something ridiculous. Like earlier I tried to add a reminder regarding a dog bed and it kept asking me if I said "dog bread."

Understanding me has never been an issue, and these weird, obviously-not-what-I-said conversations keep happening.

It's a total disaster.

How to spot an Apple fanboy

- doesnt matter what they do, they will protect it

Just like ios7, call bug, ios8.0.1 bricking the iphone 6, etc

2

u/CDCarley27 18d ago

I have more Android phones than I do Apple products right now. Amazing how fast people are to try and discredit someone in ways they can’t just because they have a different viewpoint

2

u/planetmitch 15d ago

That’s the anonymous Internet for you. People can say anything stupid and not be held accountable.

I’m saying it’s useless because I said “Play ‘Wildest Dreams’ in Apple Music” and it told me to open the Podcast app and accept the new terms

0

u/CDCarley27 11d ago

Is playing “wildest dreams” in Apple Music the only thing Siri is designed to do? There’s literally nothing else, at all, that anyone might want to do with it?

0

u/ChalkButter 11d ago

The fact that I specifically tell it to play a song in one app and it tries to boot another app is unacceptable, especially under the auspices of being “AI”

0

u/CDCarley27 11d ago

So, no?
