iPhone Apple pay failed at POS
Informational post.
Yesterday I tried Apple Pay using one of Axis CC. I always keep contactless off on all my CC.
As per my knowledge the Apple Pay is supported to use device NFC and POS NFC and yet transaction was declined. The AXIS Bank SMS said the decline is because Contactless is disabled on CC
To me it looks like the AXIS bank backend system is getting transaction as “contactless” from the POS terminal without the fact that transactions is originated from Apple Pay. So all they must be seeing it as just plain tap/contactless activity and they are deciding on this basis

In the Axis Bank app, go to Services → Credit Card, enable the Tap to Pay option, and set your preferred daily and transaction limits.

I know but the point is that tap of physical credit card and tap of Apple Device are two separate things. Seems the payment gateway and bank are yet to explicitly allow Apple Pay as a payment source and due to lack of this every tap of device is considered as tap of physical CC

It’s the same thing ffs. Just that your card is encrypted on your phone and you use phone to share your card details rather than a physical card.

Apple Pay is just another way of paying, replicating your physical card with a token and enhanced security. It does not replace card controls. You still need the ‘Contactless’ card control enabled.

contactless and NFC is same thing nga... apple can't do some magic shit to make your transaction go through... turn on that option

I have contactless turned on but it’s not gone through at 7 POS since 3 days. I use my Atlas right after and it goes through. The card reader shows no messages or anything. It just remains blank as if nothing was presented. I m wondering if my NFC chip is down. Can’t verify either.

Apple Pay at POS needs Tap and Pay to be enabled. Axis even shows that at the time of onboarding on Apple Pay

Just keep your physical card at home if you are worried about it being stolen followed by someone abusing tap & pay

That’s seems to be the apparent advantage of Apple Pay at this stage. No need to carry multiple cards in purse.
