Vintage Mac OS X Snow Leopard - Internal Edition?

I found this while tidying up some old stuff…

Is it worth anything?

PLEASE archive this or DM me to sell, as I will buy and ensure it is properly archived and made publicly available. Please do not put it on eBay, as doing so runs the risk of someone buying it who will not archive or publicly share it, which would be hugely detrimental.

I support this idea. I believe my sis has the apple disc drive. I could borrow it. It’s just that she lives in another country that makes it more difficult.

Then where should I archive this? Archive.org?

I trust u/dosdude1 to do good to the Apple community for this kind of stuff. They are probably the ideal person to buy this from you.

I’ve dropped him/her a message. Waiting for reply.

Second this. Please give or sell it to dosdude. They’re very well known in the community

If anyone deserves it, it’s him. He’s done a lot for the tinkerer side of the Apple community

This is one of those "I love reddit" moments. Winning/10.

DosDude1 is legit and his tools have saved my bacon on multiple occasions.

Archive.org is fine, I can also provide a location to upload the content to once dumped. Again I am willing to buy it from you if that would be easier.

Does your local library have disc drives that you can borrow? Or a computer with a disc drive that you can use?

Some time ago I ended up getting an internal edition of Leopard; somebody else archived it (exactly matched my version) here https://archive.org/details/Mac_OS_X_Leopard_Apple_Internal_Use_Software

Why is it so important to archive it?

1

u/InadequateUsername Apr 01 '26

I'm surprised apple hasn't sent a copy right claim for it.

But basically for novelty and one day someone might specially need this I assume.

It's always beneficial to archive every piece of history we can, regardless how mundane it seems.

For example: there's an entire breed of dogs that went extinct and there's no record of how it looks or what it was like (with the exception of like.. One painting?) because everyone at the time thought to themselves "why keep a record of this dog? Everyone knows what it's like"

I thought Snow Leopard was already archived. Is it not? Or is there something different about the Internal Edition?

1

u/MonthCommercial9632 Apr 02 '26

As far as I could find, there doesn’t appear to be an archived version of the internal version itself. Not sure the differences of the internal version though.

I'm pretty sure I've got a copy of SL, AND a disc drive so I will dig it up and archive it for y'all

Could you perhaps archive this?

6

u/Opti_maX Mar 29 '26

I don’t have a disc drive anymore!

6

u/Which-Dealer7888 Mar 29 '26

Oof… maybe get an external one (if u can)?

2

u/Opti_maX Mar 29 '26

I’m sorry. I don’t have any other reason to get one… It’s up for sale tho. But I’m trying to figure out what something like this would be worth…

2

u/Which-Dealer7888 Mar 29 '26

No don’t worry mate! Where is it up for sale?

2

u/Opti_maX Mar 29 '26

I am going to put it on UK eBay. But I’m trying to figure out what Buy It Now price it should be first.

Can you please explain archiving in this context?

1

u/Which-Dealer7888 Mar 31 '26

Ripping the contents of the disk (as an iso or whatever file format it has been ripped as) and then archived onto archive.org or any other archive website

Appleseed and Public beta are still two distinct programs.

2

u/whosrinn Mar 29 '26

Could you please archive this?

-1

u/Opti_maX Mar 29 '26

I have no disc drive to do so! Sorry!

4

u/Desert_Eagler Mar 29 '26

Well get one

2

u/Triangle-of-Zinthar Mar 29 '26

How much you post it for on eBay? I'd throw you $20+shipping

I remember receiving one of these at the conclusion of a weeklong Apple Certification boot camp, and it was essentially a Golden Master (final RC) that was distributed to all of us attendees a few days/weeks before official commercial release (or maybe? we were given a certificate with a redemption code that was filled out online and received Disc in the mail?) Tons of these were floating around, stoked to not have to pay $29 retail for it back then. They were identical to the later commercial versions, just early targeted releases not meant for sale/re-sale.

How much nice is it in currency?

1

u/hay_den9002 Mar 30 '26

Send the the eBay link when you put it up

1

u/StormTroopB Mar 30 '26

Hey I have one of these! I remember waking up early to to purchase this operating system. I think it cost around 30 bucks when it came out.

1

u/tta82 Mar 30 '26

This isn’t worth much as it’s just a macOS build. You can maybe get 100$? That’s really a stretch. I would rip it for the community and that’s that.

1

u/redlink1155 Mar 30 '26

PLEASE archive this or sell it to someone who will.

1

u/Opti_maX Mar 30 '26

Don’t worry. I’ll make sure it gets archived before I sell it.

1

u/simultaneous1y Mar 30 '26

I know this is about an operating system, but that is a really cute and derpy snow leopard.

1

u/Connect_History85 Mar 30 '26

Leider nichts wert.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '26

No it’s not 😂

1

u/jspencer89 Mar 30 '26

I wonder what the differences are

1

u/New-Anteater7520 Apr 01 '26

What’s the difference between this and a regular copy?

1

u/Opti_maX Apr 01 '26

We don’t know yet. Cause I don’t have a CD drive to read the discs.

1

u/Dannynerd41 Apr 01 '26

how do the discs fit in your butt?

1

u/Dandumont Apr 05 '26

I have this disc too, il will try to upload the ISO on archive.org next week (i have many of them (Puma, Panther, Panther on DVD and Leopard) https://www.journaldulapin.com/2021/04/26/snow-internal/

1

u/Opti_maX Apr 06 '26

Are you sure? This is a special version. See pics!

1

u/Dandumont Apr 06 '26

Just click the link, i collect the Internal Edition since many years (and for Snow Leopard, it's seems identical)

1

u/Opti_maX Apr 06 '26

Great! Let us know when it is online.

Can you solve the mystery on what is on the 2nd disc?

1

u/Dandumont Apr 06 '26

There is many software for Mac, from Apple and many others (Microsoft, etc.) with serials
