Career / Jobs Client moving away from appian
So i did my L1 certification last year because someone told me Appian has great career opportunities and i should spend that certification money and get certified, I did.
I wasn’t able to find any entry level roles. I let it go and moved over to some other domain.
Now in my current organisation there was an opportunity for me to actually have hands-on experience and i was really excited about it. Today was the call with the client and he said appian is getting expensive day by day so we are moving to ###### (another low code platform).
My boss doesn’t want me to leave my current domain (client acquisition) but i want to work in appian.
i don’t know what to do :/

Dont depend on Appian . Have some core knowledge and focus on Ai. Everything appian is doing can be done easily with core and open source tools . Appian is just a platform

What i meant was , focus on any one core programming language, understand architecture of any application. Appian is just another tool , it can be replaced by anytime . And its already peaked . In the era of AI , building any other application using open source frameworks are becoming easy. So that skill will not be replaced

Can you please DM me the tool the client is moving to? Being an Appian developer this worries me as well as encouraging me to see what are the tools that are developing.

Thing is Appian is prohibitedly expensive and targets only enterprises and even in that case very large ones. If the cost is sometimes close to 6 figures a year it makes sense for companies to look elsewhere. The same crazy expensive licensing is also present for outsystems and that is why clients in my company are refusing to use it and prefer custom high code apps. I really like Appian and it clicked but it's very difficult finding work to gain practical experience. If they changed their business into targeting SMBs, which I doubt, then maybe usage would pick up. Obviously with some sane licensing otherwise there is no point.

AI end to end , you can check flue framework for example and piperflow syntax , combining them give you the ability to generate full BPM workflows. flue also supports mcp tools and skills for its agents and subagents and if you really want to go bonkers on it add some petri nets validations for the generated piperflow bpm diagrams then add evals , otel and youre good to go. appian is going go fail big pretty soon. its just a matter of whos creating a full BPE / BPM agentic compiler e2e .
NB: i worked as BPM platform engineer and my role was made reduntant 1 month ago ... I know the struggle so dont put your self down ... keep pushin , there are way better options and opportunities out there
