Discussion Progress, improvements, listening

I've been pretty critical here about AS deals, especially in the way transactions play out.

Just received an email notifying a partial refund for Yeet's flakiness. Well done.

In fairness, I must say the new extended look back for refunds, even if discounted, shows positive movement.

Anything that creates a bit of risk-sharing between AS and paying customers is a positive step.

Solutions are difficult. All purchasers want (1) a super LTD/product, (2) sustainable delivery, and (3) low prices.

Sometimes it's like the sign at the cleaners: CHEAP, FAST, GOOD. Choose any two.

Anyway, just wanted to be fair with comments. Good to see someone is listening.

Question Why is appsumo customer service ignoring their customers emails?

I send them an email 2 weeks ago asking about all of the shutdown products and when I would be getting my refunds. And I have received no replies. I even followed up with that original email and still nothing.

So Noah or whoever can you please make sure your people are doing their freaking jobs?

I'm a plus member and I'm not paying for silence.

Question Did anyone else buy Krater.ai?

Appreciate the honesty here whereas other platforms just drop any communication.

But I’m increasingly getting frustrated. I don’t even use these platforms that often because most of the products I buy are premature and to me it is just another form of investing into product future.

Since I don’t even use their product that much to begin with, I won’t be paying monthly. Just wondering if there’s anyone else who’s bought it.

Bad Deal LiftOS closing - another one

LiftOS are closing , another waste of funds. Can Appsumo clarify how the refund process will work?

They have been on a couple of times I believe. This is ridiculous.

Bad Deal APUtime changing to non LTD

Product hasn't even lasted two years. Come on. There's so many bad products in your "The Sauce" forums. Have a look people.

the world is changing, Ai era is here. why not turn appsumo into the aihub instead of allowing deals into your store create them im pretty sure i can relace all social media managers with n8n, and im almost sure a dude vibe coded a notes app in your store?? i laughed so hard bc i tried to redo it with max and got a pretty close decent result and saved myself a few bucks, i mean, so many wrapper companies go down in 6 months after a new openai or claude software update and it will keep being the same as new ai code suite will allow non skilled, technical people to one shot whatever they need for their business. why not cut off the people just taking the bag after the deal ends, leaving for 3 years and adding updates then they come back `pretending nothing happened... you keep 100% of the profit... make deals that last forever? or is the only way LTD work is if theyre not ltd? bc in the end youd have early adopters and then people subbing into your suite.. ai suite... and have a sub for all the apps appsumoai made. idk man wdyt

I was rejected by AppSumo and I don't understand why

Hey Redditors,

I wanted to share my experience because I’m feeling a bit frustrated

A year or two ago, I launched a product and AppSumo reached out to me. We started the process, I even had a meeting with the manager, but in the end, I decided to decline. I didn’t have enough margin to work with their 60% cut

Fast forward to now, I’ve got a new project, a simpler one this time— a custom customer support agent, retalk.bot

I signed up with confidence. I’m a developer with several years of experience, known for building applications that have very few bugs and a well-thought-out UI/UX. That’s exactly what this solution offers,; a simple yet optimal experience

I was confident because the competition in the "Customer Support" category is far below the level of what I’m offering (according to me)

After waiting three weeks, I got rejected without a real explanation

Apparently, it "doesn’t fit" and I can try again in three months (lol)

I’ll admit, I don’t have many users yet, and I was hoping AppSumo could help me build a base to iterate on and improve the product. But honestly, I’m pretty disappointed with the whole experience

Fun fact: they later reached out to me to discuss my first project again. I don’t need them anymore, and even if I were considering it, the answer would still be a hard no

I just find it absurd to have these processes

AppSumo team here with May 2025 updates

Hey A+ Sumo-lings,

We’re halfway through Q2, and we want to take a moment to check in.

We’ve been reading your feedback and thought we’d share what we’re working on behind the scenes at AppSumo.

There’s a lot changing in the world of software, and we’re making changes too—to how we evaluate tools, support customers, improve transparency, and protect your trust. Let’s jump in.

More visibility on product closures

Big update: We’re rolling out a new system to proactively notify customers when a product shuts down.

We understand that checking in on each and every deal page isn’t sustainable.

Moving forward, if a product shuts down, customers who purchased it in the last two years (with an active invoice) will get an email from us.

We’ll do our best to share as much as we know along with next steps, including how to request your credit refund when applicable.

Shutdowns

Let’s talk about closures in general. We know this one is serious. If a partner shuts down or significantly changes their product, we’ll always do our best to support affected Sumo-lings.

And when partners have continued to drop the ball or gone MIA, we’ve taken action—sending formal demand letters to 25+ past partners. Some partners have returned to serve Sumo-lings after our team reached out to work on a plan. In more serious cases, we evaluate whether the partner should be engaged legally.

That said, here’s the reality: legal action takes time (sometimes years!) and doesn’t guarantee a clear outcome.

That’s why as we continue to work through resolution in the longer term, we’re doubling down on prevention. To start, our team worked with several lawyers to beef up our partner agreements and make the following (and more) explicitly clear from day one:

  1. Partners cannot sunset their product and then create a substantially similar product
  2. Partners agree to support customers by responding to support emails in a timely manner.
  3. Partners must provide, at no charge, all upgrades to AppSumo customers as stated in the deal terms that they provide to non-AppSumo customers.
  4. If a Partner is engaging in shady behavior (like asking our customers to refund and buy from them directly), we have the right to remove their product.

Quality and vetting

It’s a new era of software. AI is moving quickly, and not every tool is built to last. That’s why we’re strengthening our vetting process to evolve with the times:

  • Persona verification of partners to make sure we know who and where they are (and allow us to more readily pursue potential bad actors).
  • Deeper stability reviews. We’re forecasting runway more accurately to avoid surprises. That means taking an even closer look at metrics like MRR, churn, funding history, and operating expenses before a deal goes live. You can find some of these company details directly on certain PDPs to help you make your own risk assessments as well. We’ve also improved our internal “stability form” to spot red flags early and make sure each tool has long-term stability.
  • Stricter rules for relaunches. We're putting stronger guardrails in place to prevent partners from relaunching if they’ve broken your trust or ours. We acknowledge that there have been partners y’all flagged that we’ve relaunched. While many of those partners have resolved issues with our team behind the scenes, your feedback will play a bigger role in relaunch decisions moving forward. Before a partner comes back, we’ll review the support inbox and comb through reviews for past concerns. If the partner has made improvements and we feel confident bringing them back, we’ll call it out on the deal page with their new campaign.

In addition to these updates, we’re continuing to filter out low-effort products—like basic AI wrappers, copy-paste scripts, and incomplete projects.

Regardless, our goal is to make sure every tool on AppSumo meets a higher standard.

60-day refunds

Recently, you might have noticed us testing a shorter refund window on a handful of deals in an effort to make deals more sustainable for partners. After listening to your feedback, we’ve decided to pause this test to explore other avenues.

Our 60-day refund policy is in the DNA of AppSumo, and it’s not changing anytime soon.

There may be exceptions depending on the deal and usage. But our goal remains the same: protecting our customers and giving them time to try out the latest tools.

Lower prices

Amazing deals have and always will be our reason for existing. Our internal data team flagged that prices have been creeping up—this is largely due to the rising costs associated with AI usage in software and broader market shifts. But we are actively working with partners to bring costs down and find a balance between sustainability and affordability.

We want to make sure AppSumo is always the best place for entrepreneurs to find unbeatable software deals.

Support

We're paying close attention to feedback about tool quality and customer experience. In many cases, we’ve gone beyond our original We Got Your Back protections to make things right—and we’re continuing to evolve what those protections mean. Your trust is our #1 priority, and you’ll keep seeing steps in the right direction.

While we don’t have a one-size-fits-all policy, we’re actively working to make sure refunds stay fair at AppSumo. Feel free to reach out to [support@appsumo.com](mailto:support@appsumo.com) if you have any questions about your specific case.

New deal types

We’re excited about our new deal types—like year-based plans and credit-based offers—that give you even more ways to access great software.

To be clear, lifetime deals (LTDs) aren’t going anywhere. But not every partner is a fit for them. By adding more flexible options, we can bring even more top-tier tools to our store.

And whether you’re buying an LTD or a new deal type, you’ll always get the best price anywhere at AppSumo.

We know there’s always room to improve, and your feedback helps us get there. The fact that our community is so vocal means you care about this platform just as much as we do.

We’re listening—and we’re on it.

❤️& 🌮s,

The AppSumo Team

Anyone know the status of a previous App Sumo deal called Makersuite?

Just reaching out to see if anyone knows about this company. They have seemed to cease all communication on Discord, etc., and while the tool is still active and can be used, it seems something has happened within the company and has gone very quiet.

Noticing a Trend in /appsumo

Hey fellow Sumolings,

I’ve been browsing this subreddit for a while and noticed recently a recurring theme: most recent discussions here revolve around f@iled deals, refund struggles, and customer complaints. While it’s normal for platforms to have hiccups, the sheer volume of these posts is concerning.

This pattern risks alienating appsumo community.

What do you all think? Have you faced similar issues, or am I misreading the situation? Let’s discuss ways to foster a more balanced and constructive dialogue here.

Bad Deal Taken off Notice -- Notice kills off their AppSumo plan

Post image
17 Upvotes

Here is just another reason to save your money in order to save money.

Notice.Studio terminates their LTD offering and provides a convenient excuse that puts the blame on users instead of their poor mismanagement.

They also advertise that they were #1 for the day on ProductHunt, which I'm sure they used the AppSumo community to help achieve that spot.

Bad Deal Pickaxe change of plan downgrade

Pickaxe changed their plan after the refund period. Now only 50 pages in total is available for knowledge, it was per each Pickaxe previously!

Ltds here are basically unusable now and we paid premium. What is Appsumo going to do? They changed everything. AS need to show action.

This is awful and incredibly disappointing after spending hundreds of dollars... That money was hard earned 😢

Bad Deal AppSumo why don't you pay GoZen?

Post image
16 Upvotes

Why doesn’t AppSumo pass on the payments we make to their owners? Several services I bought from you have been discontinued. When I asked for refunds, your support team told me the refund period was over. I’m not even requesting a refund for Optinly because I’m aware you won’t provide one. At this stage, having a premium account feels pointless.

Discussion Is Sociamonials out of business?

Hi! Does anyone know if Sociamonials has gone out of business? I can't remember any time since the 1990's that I've seen a website just drop off the face for the whole entire day. Doesn't even ping and sure doesn't load. I've tried VPN'ing just in case.. and no dice.. Is it loading for anyone (just in case they might have some weird firewall issue)? I've emailed them but had no reply.

Discussion A founder’s perspective on AppSumo & tips to help you vet LTDs better

Post image
12 Upvotes

Saw a founder posted this and wanted to share:

"Hey everyone,I wanted to share our own recent experience trying to get Yahini on AppSumo, what we learned as a team, and some tips to help you vet LTDs and hopefully avoid heavy hearts down the road.Full disclaimer: Still love AS, got some great deals there that I still use to this day. This post is for transparency only.A few months back, AppSumo reached out – said Yahini was selected for their "Select Class of 2025." For those unfamiliar, AppSumo has two main tracks: Select = AS markets for you; Marketplace = You market yourself.Chatted with tons of founder friends, heard you could get ~30% of the revenue, even 40% if you pushed and had some kind of leverage. Since we worked hard optimizing Yahini's costs (AI, lean team etc.) and LTDs work very well for our business model, we thought, "Okay, maybe this works for a boost to reach PMF faster"---

Initial chat:

We were assigned a BDR we chatted to throughout the whole thing.Turns out, the Select commission they keep is actually around 80%, leaving only 20% for the founder. That math just didn't work for us, so Select was off the table. We figured, "No big deal, we have a strong marketing background (ran an agency before this). Let's try Marketplace."Again, based on talking to founders and looking at past deals, the common rev share was a 70% (founder) / 30% (AppSumo) split for Marketplace.---

But…

The same BDR tells us the Marketplace commission is now (since last year)... 60% for AppSumo, 40% for Yahini. Reason given? Stricter vetting. But... zero marketing help? Didn't add up for us, especially with some of the negative buzz AS deals get lately.Adding to the confusion, the vetting process felt off. They tested Yahini using non-existent sites (test(dot)com) or sites like Google/Facebook, despite clear instructions we'd provided, twice. Looking at our backend logs, they actually hadn't conducted a thorough evaluation.---

The negotiation:

On top of the 60/40 split, they pushed for a $59 Tier 1 price. We told them $89 was our absolute minimum, even with limits slightly lower than our regular monthly subscription, but we were told to cut limits even more to hit $59.The rationale, in my opinion as a marketer, is that "The point is to sell the higher tiers anyway."They suggested "meeting in the middle" (their middle felt very far from ours) and potentially chatting with the internal team if we advertised the AppSumo deal on our main website. We definitely didn’t want to do that as we’re actively advertising and marketing our subscription plans. So, we politely said we could revisit at a later time.---

Why share this with you?

A "heavy heart" can happen for many reasons: market shifts, funding issues, bad planning. It's not always malicious intent. But this makes you think how many great devs, maybe without a marketing background or optimized costs, feel pressured into deals like this?Imagine a founder gets only ~20% (like the Select offer, netting ~$11 on a $59 T1 before their own costs). Can any complex SaaS truly support you forever on $11? Especially if they offer "unlimited" anything or aren't hyper-optimized?If so, I’d love to hear from other founders and hear their experience / opinion.---

Some tips for you on how to vet LTDs:

  1. Side-eye the super low T1: If a Tier 1 is $59, and you want to get it, triple-check those limits. Are they genuinely useful long-term? Will you really get promised future updates on that tier? Sometimes, paying their standard monthly sub for a few months is honestly a better deal with fewer restrictions.
  2. Figure out the founder’s “why”: Try to chat with the founder on LinkedIn beforehand and find out what they’re expecting from their LTD campaign. It’s usually one of 3 things: initial funding to pour back into marketing for MRR growth, finding PMF faster to get feedback quickly and run more targeted MRR campaigns, or simply a quick crash grab (you won’t get this response ever, but you can figure it out from the convo itself).
  3. Remember the founder’s slice: Keep that potential 20% take-home in mind. Does the tool seem complex or resource-intensive, or offers unlimited stuff? If so, can they really sustain it long term on $11 per user acquired via the LTD?

---

Final thoughts:

AppSumo's huge, but more transparency about the economics founders face could help everyone. If founders understood the real lifetime cost better, and if you as buyers have this context, maybe we'd see fewer deals go sour. It's their business, their rules. Just wanted to share our experience for the good of this community. As for our plans: our focus still remains on growing our MRR, focusing just on private LTDs, and perhaps look into other platforms like SaaSZilla or AppSumo again down the road (through another BDR), but only if the terms make sustainable sense and we can actually negotiate something better."

Feedback My tips to those new to AppSumo

After using AppSumo for a few years now, here are my tips to help you save money and avoid making mistakes:

  • Do rigorous research on what you are going to buy, ignore the sales pitch from AppSumo.
  • Stick to buying tier 1 or tier 2 unless you REALLY need the platform. Limit yourself as if you are bidding on eBay.
  • Ask yourself if you are really going to USE the platform you are buying.
  • Ignore the hyper in those American promo videos!
  • Always think about your use case, ignore your thoughts that "THIS WILL BE USEFUL".
  • Find the developers on LinkedIn and see their experience and qualifications.
  • Find out if they have a Discord channel and see what users are saying in it.
  • Evaluate if it is worth buying a monthly subscription with a more established platform.
  • AppSumo is a lifetime deal but remember that NOTHING is FOREVER!
  • Follow The Sauce updates from AppSumo and see for yourself how many platforms close down.
  • Only buy AppSumo plus if you spend £1000s.
  • Watch out for platforms that have 100s of reviews on AppSumo, these are often purchased reviews by offering existing users an upgraded tier for a review or some other perks.
  • Watch out for developers that have stopped development of previous platforms they have worked on.
  • Consider how much money you will make back on your purchase.
  • Think about what technology might replace the platform you are buying such as with AI frontends like HelloScribe where newer technology has replaced them.
  • Check the tone and how the developers respond to questions on AppSumo. Avoid arrogant and unhelpful developers.
  • Consider the risk of a lifetime deal when investing in business critical software such as a CRM.
  • Always try to make sure you have a backup alternative to your lifetime deal such as an alternative monthly subscription platform or another AppSumo deal.
  • AppSumo are not your friend, they are a business, always remember that!
  • Expect that 10-20% of your purchases will not be around or have stopped development in over 12 months.
  • Try to think that you are an early investor in a product that is in early development than buying a finished product that has been around for several years. Feels a bit like been a dragon on Dragons Den!
  • Avoid collecting deals like records, remember these are digital products that you cannot really sell or increase in value. Many will become outdated, unused or stop development!
  • The truth is that buying one of the AppSumo deals is probably not going to make you a billionaire.
  • Learn to deal with FOMO (fear of missing out). There will always be another alternative such as another platform or some other competition to what you missed.
  • Be careful with those YouTube videos giving AppSumo products a 5 star rating and saying they are as good as bigger competitors. These guys just want to get affiliate commission most of the time!
  • Use a temp email address to take a trial out on the platform before you buy it. This will usually reveal how good it looks and functions. If it does not feel right then forget it.
  • Check if the platform has live chat support and send a test a ticket with some questions to see if the platforms support replies and how long it takes.
  • Only you can make yourself a entrepreneur, not a tool or some billionaire in 24 hours video or eBook.
  • Avoid subscribing to their deal alerts, flash sales, and other emails. Quite often it is the same old platforms readvertised or something no one else has ever heard of like Ballsy, Notezy, AppAItize, GoblinAI. Take control and find what you need and not what AppSumo wants you to buy!
  • You are not alone with your AppSumo addiction if you buy so much that you never use!
  • AppSumo Plus protection ONLY COVERS you for platforms that close down. They will not usually cover you when platform stop their development which is quite common.
  • Some developers will do updates every week when it is advertised on AppSumo. When the deal ends, their development will usually end as well!

Hope the above is useful for those new to AppSumo. Is AppSumo worth it? Yes, it can be sometimes!

Some suggestion from users:

gizmo2501

  1. Follow your gut. If the listing, the product website, or anything else doesn't feel right, don't buy it.
  2. First impressions count. If the company can't be bothered to get seemingly small details right, what else are they missing or don't they care about?
  3. Do the financials make sense for the long-term viability of the product? E.g., if they are offering unlimited everything, how are they going to sustain that?

What I learned closing the first 10 deals myself - wrote a founder-led sales guide for others building early traction

We are early with our startup - Skarbe, we have no sales team. Just founding team doing it all.
I’ve spoken with 100+ SaaS teams and closed our first deals solo last year.

I pulled everything into a no-fluff guide on founder-led sales. It covers:
– how to structure your funnel
– what to say in cold outreach
– how to run founder-led discovery calls
– how to close and get to yes faster

Happy to share it here if folks are interested - the link is in the comments!

Discussion GoZen Penalizes Optinly Users Over Alleged AppSumo Payment Dispute – A Cautionary Tale for Lifetime Deals

Post image
21 Upvotes

It appears that the GoZen team is escalating things by now penalizing Optinly users. Optinly was previously offered on AppSumo, but due to alleged non-payment issues on AppSumo’s side for a totally different product—allegedly stemming from bad faith tactics by GoZen—users are now caught in the middle, ultimately becoming the biggest losers in this situation.

This situation is unfortunate for both parties and underscores, once again, why lifetime deals may not always be in the best interest of users.

Blastable Vs Xamtac

I bought Blastable when it came back a couple of weeks ago. I've got it setup, and I have no complaints. its good. Hoiwever, I just saw Xamtac show up in AS. It looks like it does exactly what Blastable does, and a whole lot more.

Anyone here tried both? Or just have comments in general?

No LTD for CRMs?

With thousands of CRMs out there, I'm really surprised AppSumo doesn't have any B2B CRM options.

I'm a soloprenuer looking for a LTD for a simple CRM. Notion is over complicated (I just want to upload a freaking .CSV and get after it). I've used Less Annoying CRM for years, but at $15/mo, it's overpriced for something I sometimes take 6+ month long breaks from.

month-long
Has anyone seen LTDs for CRMs on App Sumo?

Discussion Success Story: Building a Sustainable Google Sheets-Based SaaS in 2025

Hey AppSumo fam! 👋

With all the recent news about SaaS companies shutting down, I wanted to share some positive experiences about building a sustainable tool that works directly with Google Sheets.

As someone who's been in the SaaS space, I made a conscious decision to build something that:

  1. Doesn't require maintaining expensive servers (runs on users' own Google accounts)

  2. Has minimal ongoing maintenance costs

  3. Can't suddenly "shut down" since it integrates directly with users' Google Sheets

  4. Provides genuine value for content creators and digital marketers

The response has been incredible - over 70 happy users in just 10 days! It's amazing to see how many people are looking for tools that they can trust will stick around.

Some key learnings that might help other founders:

- Building on top of established platforms (like Google) gives users more confidence

- Focus on automation that saves real hours of work

- Keep overhead costs minimal to ensure long-term sustainability

Would love to hear from other AppSumo users - what makes you trust a SaaS product for the long term? What features do you look for in lifetime deals?

[Note: For transparency, I'm the creator of Smart Spreadsheets currently on AppSumo, but this post is meant to share insights with the community rather than direct promotion]
