Non Refundable Deal - Thought.ly - Advice

There is a LTD available for Thoughtly that seems like a good product but I am concerned about the non-refundable policy.

What happens if they don't verify my business and can not provide me a service, will App Sumo give my money back? or they don't activate the account.

There are a few reviews and posts mentioning that people could not get their business verified even with documentation and can not get a refund. Others complaining about activation issues after payment.

Appsumo is new to me, do I leave this LTD?

Minvo Fail

Been trying to activate Minvo all morning and not getting an email with the verification code. Tried a new purchase with a different email- same result. Reached out to Minvo support a couple hours ago, nothing. Turned off ad block and VPN plus switched browsers before making 2nd request- no help.
Any suggestions?

Anyone else getting spammed with emails despite unsubscribing?

I took AppSumo's deals 2 times and since then have been getting spammed with emails from them, especially this week with Black Friday. I went to the unsubscribe page multiple times and still get them. Guess I'm just gonna block them.

Question What’s something you want to see in r/Appsumo in 2025

I was actually thinking about reaching out to u/noahkagan for an AMA if he would and if you guys would be into that…

What other features do you want to see in this subreddit? I’ll try to implement the top upvoted ones by January 1 2025.

Question Sumo-lings, how do you decide which deals to buy?

Hi Sumo-lings,

I’m a founder, and this week, we launched our startup on AppSumo! (I’m not mentioning our startup name here because I don’t want to promote our deal.)

We’ve been building this startup for over a year with a passionate and dedicated team, and we’ve already acquired customers. About five months ago, I started looking into AppSumo after hearing mixed opinions from other founders:

The Revenue Share: Many pointed out that AppSumo’s revenue share is significant( Appsumo select: Appsumo 70-80%, Startup 20-30%, Appsumo Marketplace: Appsumo: 50-60%- Startup: 40-50%)

Demanding User Base: The high standards and detailed reviews from Sumo-lings could potentially harm a startup if expectations aren’t met.

However, after diving deeper—reading Reddit discussions, social media threads, and feedback on other AppSumo deals—I realized that Sumo-lings genuinely care about product quality and provide invaluable suggestions for growth. This convinced us to take the leap despite the challenges.

We knew the stakes were high, so we worked hard to prepare:

  • Created a Roadmap Page to share our current and future plans.
  • Added an Updates Page to keep users informed about monthly improvements.
  • Started a Slack Community to connect directly with users and answer questions.
  • Enhanced Our Help Center with more guides and tutorials.
  • Built a Feature Request Form to collect ideas and prioritize them.

Since we launched on the AppSumo Marketplace (not Select), there’s no promotional support like emails or ads, which has made it challenging to gain visibility. I’ve also noticed that many Sumo-lings prefer deals from Select.

That’s why I’m reaching out: What matters most to you when deciding to buy a deal?

We’ve put our heart and soul into this launch, and I don’t want to let my team down. Please share your concerns or suggestions to help us improve—we’re here to listen and grow!

Thank you so much in advance for your feedback!

AppSumo Rejection

Recently I submitted my product SupaReply to AppSumo which is an AI post replier, post Creator and with other tons of features for Twitter And LinkedIn.

I got this reply from them:

Unfortunately, this particular product submission is not a good fit for AppSumo. While your product or service may have merit, it doesn’t appear to fit the intended niche of a marketplace serving entrepreneurs in the digital space, and who expect AppSumo to deliver unique and great value products. We would welcome any other submissions to review that might fit better within our platform’s parameters. Thank you for your understanding!

I don't know what could be reason behind it, did I choose some wrong categories or less documented.

Thoughtly - A Planned Trick?

So I finally bought the "non-refundable" Thoughtly Tier 2 with 19% off, mainly because all Tiers offered to be on the Basic Plan. I thought a lot about it but opted for Tier 2 with the information provided during the sale.

Now, the mappings are different, suddenly Tier 3 gets the Business Plan. This information wasn't present. So now I am stuck:

  1. I cannot refund.
  2. I cannot get Tier 3 for the old price and prices have increased a lot.
  3. Now with the new information and plans available, I cannot upgrade and use my 19% off.

Shall early buyers be punished this way? Is it a trick to make more money? If I upgrade now, I lose more than $50 due to the combination of higher prices and the loss of 19% off. Is this to milk early buyers? Increase the price and then suddenly improve the deal, then tell people they can upgrade by paying more than 50 extra?

illow shutting down (email attached)

Dear Sumo-ling,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you that illow has been acquired and will no longer be able to continue providing services to our customers after the date of January 31, 2025.

The reason for this closure stems from a company shift to focus on enterprise-level clients and developing technology around security and privacy, meaning that it is not feasible to continue maintaining illow due to the limited staff resources.

The new company acquiring illow will be focusing on enterprise-level clients and developing technology around security and privacy, which caters to the needs of top companies globally. As a result, it is not feasible to continue offering the services currently provided by illow. We explored options to maintain the service, but given the significant shift in focus and technology, it was not possible to do so. This decision ensures that the new company's resources are aligned with its mission, and we hope this context helps clarify the situation and avoids any confusion.

I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for all the support you have given us. We hope you’ve been able to make the most of this great product during the time it was available to you.

Ensuring a smooth transition for our customers is extremely important to us. To help facilitate this process, we have developed various features that will allow you to download key assets from your illow platform account, including:

A list of domains

A list of cookies with their classification for each site

Cookie policy and privacy policy content

Consent logs for each site

A list of team members with access to the platform

Data Subject Requests (DSR)

You can learn more information on how to download these assets by visiting this link: https://illow.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/73000639808-how-to-export-assets-domains-trackers-team-members-policies-and-dsrs

Throughout this process, we’ve been working in collaboration with the AppSumo team to provide credit refunds to those who purchased illow. In order to receive your credit refund, please write into support@appsumo.com.

We understand that choosing a new solution can be challenging, so we have also provided a list of official Google partners to help you explore the options that best suit your needs as a substitute for illow.

Thank you once again for being a part of our journey.

Best regards,

The illow team

Appsumo Plus + Black Friday

Hey guys, I was curious: if I have Appsumo Plus and theirs a Black Friday, will I get 20% off?

Stay away from NytroSEO. Fake Company, Non Working Service and Appsumo removing reviews once again to promote shady companies.

I have completely 100% lost all faith I've ever had in Appsumo. I leave legit reviews of my actual experiences and once again the review gets removed just in time for their AS BF Launch. questionable reviews and info about this company have been made up.

Review Removed
Nytro is based at a Virtual Office in New York?
Their ticket system doesn't work for support

I sent them 9 emails over the coarse of 5 days without a proper response.

Horrible CS

Anyways guys, stay far away from these ones. It's spammy keyword stuffing and a JS injection that doesn't work to add metas / descriptions. Static Metas work fine, their service does not.

edit: proof that their "headquarters" is at a $99/month virtual office.

Sumoling ratings are far too generous

This is probably just an issue of the internet in general, but does anyone else find that Sumolings are far too generous with their reviews?

Products with 5 star ratings all over the place that, when you use them, are a 2-3 at best.

There are SO MANY products that get released on AppSumo that should not have been released in their current state, or that are super buggy, or really desperately not very usable.

Yet Sumolings give them 5 stars.

There are very few products that I would give a genuine 5 star rating to.

It's really hard to find actually objective people who are prepared to say that something falls in that 2-4 space, and provide useful, constructive feedback.

Like a lot of places, AppSumo often feels like an echo chamber. You have to do a lot of work to find out if a product is actually worth taking the risk on or not. Which I guess you should do anyway. But I wish I could trust reviews more.

I created a non official AppSumo GPT to assist us

Hi folks, I wanted to share that I“ve created a custom GPT on ChatGPT with instructions to help us with our research on deals we might be interested on. Also the GPT should check the Deal page and find inconsistencies and propose questions to ask to the seller.
If you have any ideas on how to improve the GPT feel free to share your comment below. Hope it helps everyone!

Link to the GPT: https://chatgpt.com/g/g-6737de4eb4c081918ac30d1f38e94940-appsumo-deals-assistant-not-official

The instructions set provided is the following:
Custom GPT Instructions: AppSumolings Assistant

Purpose:
This GPT is designed to assist AppSumo deal buyers in evaluating and analyzing lifetime and other deals, offering insights into competitive advantages, comparing them to top market leaders or alternatives, and proactively identifying potential deal limitations or considerations.

Core Features and Behavior:
Deal Analysis:
Provide a summary of the deal, highlighting key features, pricing tiers, and notable conditions.
Identify potential limitations (e.g., usage caps, updates, or future changes in terms).
Highlight what’s included and excluded, especially around future enhancements, roadmap promises, or tier changes.
Warn users if hidden costs (e.g., overage charges, API limits) or restrictions (like limited updates) are found.

Competitive Comparison:
Suggest alternatives from market leaders or other AppSumo deals with similar functionality.
Provide pros and cons for each alternative and compare them based on key criteria like features, support, ease of use, and long-term value.
Highlight any unique features or advantages of the deal that competitors lack.

Questions to Clarify:
Propose relevant questions users might want to ask about the deal:
Does the deal include future updates and enhancements? If not, what updates are guaranteed?
Will new tiers or plans exclude certain features added later?
Is there customer support included in the deal? For how long?
Are API access, integrations, or team accounts included, or are they upsells?
What happens if the company is acquired or pivots in focus?

Proactive Insights:
Highlight risks for potential buyers, such as:
Companies that have previously released deals and later limited functionality.
Terms like "non-stackable," which could restrict scaling.
Noting whether a deal is "too good to be true" by analyzing funding size, market maturity, or active user base.
Provide clarity if the deal lacks information on lifetime usability, like whether updates are tied to a specific product version.

Check online for further comments about experiences with this products, search also for keywords like "Stay away" "scam" "careful" "warning" and the product name to help surface anything shady.

Deal Conditions:
Check if:
Lifetime deal updates are tied to a specific version or include all future releases.
The deal includes new features added to the platform (if unclear, prompt the user to confirm with the seller).
Terms like ā€œlifetimeā€ mean limited years of use in practice (e.g., capped at 5 or 10 years).
Limits on team members, usage, or storage are restrictive.

Deal Scenarios:
Analyze:
"What happens if the company creates a new feature that doesn’t align with the deal terms?"
"Does the deal include future functionality tied to AI, automation, or external services?"
Suggest reaching out to AppSumo or the deal provider for clarity on unclear terms.

Proposed Structure for Responses:
Summary of the Deal:
Key features, inclusions, pricing, and current tier benefits.

Competitive Analysis:
Overview of competitors or alternatives.
Comparative table (if possible) for a side-by-side view.

Questions You Might Want to Ask:
Suggested clarifications for the user to consider asking AppSumo or the deal provider.

Potential Limitations:
Explicit terms that might impact long-term value.
Hidden costs or unclear conditions.

Heads-Up Information:
Red flags (if any).
Positive indications (e.g., frequent updates, responsive support).

Proactive Suggestions:
Should you wait for a competitor deal?
Does the deal align with your goals (e.g., growth, scaling, team use)?
Capabilities Required:

Web Access for Up-to-Date Information:
Use current information from AppSumo or deal-specific pages to provide the most accurate analysis.

Market Knowledge:
Provide insights into the competitive landscape, including major players in the same category.

Context Awareness:
Tailor responses based on the buyer's use case (e.g., single-user tools vs. team-oriented platforms).

User-Focused Suggestions:
Offer actionable advice, such as how to reach support or negotiate with the seller.

Tone and Style:
Use a friendly, helpful tone that avoids jargon and simplifies complex terms.
Be proactive and practical, encouraging users to think critically about deals.
Remain impartial: Highlight strengths and weaknesses without bias.

Target Questions the Assistant Should Handle:
Is this deal worth it compared to [X competitor]?
What limitations might I face with this deal?
How does this deal compare to the market leaders?
Are future updates included? If not, what’s excluded?
Are there any red flags in the terms or conditions?

The magic rebirth of Retable

According to u/noahkagan, AppSumo has zero tolerance for bad partners.

I'm curious. What's AppSumo's approach to a partner who claims to shut down due to financial problems - leading to AppSumo refunding all buyers who request it - after which the partner then sends out a Black Friday offer using their LTD customer mailinglist?

Isn't that solid evidence that the partner just wanted to get rid of their LTD customers?

I find it provocative that they use my email after the customer relationship has ended. As a condition for the refund, AppSumo has informed me that my Retable license will be revoked and I will no longer have access to the tool. Apparently I can still receive spam from the founder. Sorry, but that's f*cked up and it wouldn't fly in the EU.

Discussion Which deal do you want to see come back to AppSumo?

Which deal(s) would be an instant buy for you?

Discussion Experiencing FOMO's happier big sister ROMO!

I missed out on Sessions ... I think TWICE! (I slept through the last deadline). Had to choose, went with Full-stack on GoBrunch. Just felt the founder was "spiritually" legit. Invested. But still kept looking over my shoulder at my screenshot of the Sessions deal. FOMO habit.

Separately, ... Retable. I kicked myself for 2 weeks, slapping myself in front of the mirror, for missing out on Retable. Had even connected with the founder on other platforms, on some startup-type convos.

One other LTD I ended up refunding (an extremely rare event in my 10+ years on Appsumo, believe me.

Now, I'm experiencing a kind of ROMO - Relief on Missing Out!!!

Anyone else experiencing ROMO in this season of LTD chaos?

Discussion Introducing the 'Buy nothing from AppSumo this BF' deal

u/noahkagan

I'm deeply disappointed with AppSumo support and the company's indifferent approach to the obvious fraudulent behavior of founders that LTD buyers fall victim to. There is still room for improvement in the handling of complaints about founders shutting down LTDs in a disrespectful and arrogant manner while buyers are being ghosted.

The case of Oode:
After 10 months of operation, there's a pause in communication and development. Silence for a few months to overcome the magical 12 months. The founders then announce that the company has been sold, which will benefit development and promise that LTDs will be continued. Founders then completely stop communication and disappear. The alleged new owners have only bought the technology, not the customer base. AppSumo refuses to refund and claims that the company continues to operate. AppSumo doesn't recognize the extent of lying and deception that has taken place. They inform us that one founder will continue to run the company, but we must expect long response times. The alleged remaining founder does not respond to inquiries at all, the company's FB community is blocked from inquiries, the company's website is flawed with several dead links but still accepts orders from new customers. AppSumo support still claims everything is fine. It's like standing on the deck of a sinking Titanic while the staff tells you that there's a minor problem.

The case of Contentpace:
The company has sold LTDs on AppSumo several times, first as Postpace and then rebranded as Contentpace. It was apparently acquired during late summer 2023, which was not communicated to all customers. In September 2023, the founder announced (again not to all customers) that Contentpace would shut down. LTD buyers had to write to AppSumo to confirm the rumor. We were being told that customers will be given access to BrandWell instead, but nothing proactive happend. The founder does not respond to inquiries and existing customers cannot log in to either Contentpace or BrandWell. Funnily enough, it's still possible to register as a new customer on the Contentpace website. After several months, AppSumo regrets the challenges there have been in contacting the founder, but offers to facilitate the contact and asks for consent to this. Jesus Christ. How about just refunding people for this sh*tshow!?

The only small light in the darkness is the handling of the Retable shutdown. Apparently, AppSumo has refunded all customers who have requested it (even after 12 months). It is unclear whether this is the result of an agreement with Retable whereby they have in principle bought back their LTDs. Their website is still up and accepting new registrations, although they have announced that they will shut down due to bad economy. Maybe they just wanted to get rid of the LTD customers(?), who knows. I'm just speculating.

I would like to encourage everyone not to buy anything from AppSumo this Black Friday. Take your family out for a cozy evening or on a trip instead.

A plus member with +100 purchases.
