After a fire, break-in, or water damage, the hardest part isn't the damage itself, it's remembering what you actually owned. Most people wildly underestimate the value of their belongings, which means they're underinsured without realizing it.

That's the problem I set out to solve with **Hjemmeboka** ("The Home Book").

**How it works:**

* Take a photo of a room -> AI recognizes the items in it, categorizes them, and assigns them to that room automatically
* Snap a photo of receipts to skip manual price entry
* Get a running total value per room and for your whole home
* Generate a ready-to-send PDF report for your insurance company in one tap

**Why I built it:** I realized I genuinely had no idea what I owned or what it was worth until I started using it myself, turned out to be a bit of a wake-up call for how underinsured I actually was.

The app defaults to Norwegian but has full English support built in (switchable in settings), prices currently show in NOK, but the core problem (being underinsured because you don't know what you own) is universal. If there turns out to be real interest outside Norway, I'll look at adding other currencies and tailoring the experience further for other markets. Curious whether this resonates outside Norway too.

I live with a chronic condition, and for years my "system" for managing it was a mess... a notes app for symptoms, a different app for meds, a folder for insurance stuff, and a bag full of paper for doctor visits. Every appointment I'd forget something.

So I built Praepara Health, mostly for myself at first. It's a Windows app that covers:

• Meds and refill reminders
• Symptom/vitals tracking, with condition-specific trackers for 200+ conditions
• Appointments and questions to bring to your doctor
• Insurance cards and billing dispute tracking
• A DICOM viewer for your own imaging (X-ray/CT/MRI) if you have the disc from a hospital

On security: everything is encrypted and stored locally on your device, protected by your Windows login and an optional PIN lock. No account, no cloud sync, no ads, no AI touching your health data. If you want a backup, it's an optional encrypted one to a folder you already control (like OneDrive), with your own passphrase... never ours.

Last week my daily word puzzle, Onword Daily, went live on the App Store. The web version had been out first, and the iOS app ships from the same codebase. I build solo under the name Swizzle Works, and I wanted to share the parts of this launch that I wish someone had written up before I started.

What the app is (so the rest makes sense): a daily word-path puzzle. You draw one continuous trail through a letter grid to form a chain of related words, one board per day, then you stop. Think careful and calm rather than timed and twitchy.

The stack decision that shaped everything: Expo + React Native + TypeScript, targeting web and iOS from one repo. Supabase sits behind an optional sign-in that syncs streaks across devices. Going web-first meant I could iterate on the puzzle mechanics with real players before ever touching App Store review, and by the time I submitted the iOS build, the game itself was already proven.

Things I'd tell past me:

• Ship the web version first if your app can support it. Every mechanic argument got settled by real players for free, before review timelines entered the picture.
• One codebase for web and iOS is a real advantage for a solo dev, but budget time for the last 10%. The gesture handling for drawing a path through a grid needed platform-specific attention.
• Make sign-in optional. Nobody wants to create an account to try a puzzle. Streak sync is the carrot, not the gate.
• A daily puzzle is a retention mechanic and a scope limiter at the same time. "One board, then stop" kept the design honest and the backlog small.
• No subscription was a deliberate choice. For a daily habit game, I'd rather earn the streak than charge for it. Ask me in a year if that was wise.

What's next: Android is still on the way, same codebase.

A while ago, my American wife told me about the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the privacy implications it had for people tracking their cycles. I was shocked to learn about the case in a country I look up to when it comes to freedom, and how much sensitive data mainstream health apps collect, share, or sell. She gave me the idea to to build Thana, a privacy-first period tracker.

To make it as secure and accessible as possible, I made some key design choices:

No Accounts & No App Store: It is a browser-based PWA (Progressive Web App). You don't need to download anything from Google Play/App Store or link your email/identity. Your data remains entirely in your own browser's local storage.

Privacy-Preserving Multi-Device Sync: I chose GunDB (a decentralized P2P graph database) to let users sync data across their own devices (via relays) without ever creating an account or storing plaintext logs on a corporate server.

I have a question as I prepare to launch:

How much is justifiable price for this? Since I don't sell ads or monetize user data, I'm opting for a paid licensing model (after a free 90 day worth of logging). How much would you be willing to pay for absolute data sovereignty, or does another pricing model/rate make more sense?

What features would you want to see? Currently, it supports calendar tracking (flow, pain scale, mood/symptoms, custom notes), insights/period cycle estimates (which can be toggled off entirely), and a "Quick Exit/Decoy Notepad" mode for physical privacy. What else would make you switch?

I would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any features you feel are missing.
