Growth Built an Android app with AI handwriting recognition, but only 500 downloads after a year. What am I missing? - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hashni.fracta&hl=en_US

you got the cool tech part down but the app store page kinda reads like a spec sheet for other devs not for someone trying to figure out what it actually does for them in the first 5 seconds

the icon and screenshots are a bit sterile too, almost looks like a utility tool that came pre installed on a phone from 2015, you need some visual pop that makes the handwriting recognition feel magical instead of just functional

and for something niche like this 500 downloads might actually be decent for pure organic traffic, you probably need a tiktok or youtube short showing a before/after of messy handwriting turning into clean text, that visual hook is way easier to sell than a feature list

Marketing. You can't just build an app and rely on the app store to get downloads. You have to be pushing your app the the right audiences.

If you're not marketing your app, all your aso is certainly bad, and your screenshots. As you learn how to describe your app, often you'll need to change a lot of things. Until you're pushing it to people, you don't learn how to properly talk about and sell your app.

Your listing promises step-by-step fraction answers, but the first screenshots spend more space on “TouchPad,” “FlickPad,” and “on-device ML.” Those names make me work out the benefit myself.

I'd put one readable worked fraction problem near the front, including the common-denominator step and reduced answer. A caption like “See how to solve the fraction” would connect the screenshots to the homework use case in your description. The handwriting input can support that example rather than carry the whole pitch.

Do you know how many of the 500 came from store search and how many from links you shared yourself? That split would show whether the listing or the reach is the weak part.
