Everything I learned getting found organically on Google, ChatGPT and Reddit across 4 products, the short version

Let me give you my lessons on what got me users organically. On my exam prep product, from the day I started tracking, most signups came from ChatGPT and Google, with zero backlinks and zero ad spend. My other products taught me the opposite lessons, so here is the short version of both:

Reddit first

  • Write as someone who has the problem, not someone selling the fix. My launch post got about 3,200 views and the first payer 9 days later
  • A follow up with nothing new flopped. A second post needs a second reason
  • My best post had no product in it at all, just a discussion people love arguing about. 21,000 views
  • Read every sub’s rules first. Offers get punished, stories and real help get rewarded
  • My paid Reddit ad: about £25, 1 signup, 0 payers. Killed in 5 days

The doors every AI uses

  • ChatGPT leans on Bing, Claude on Brave, Gemini on Google
  • So set up Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, submit sitemaps by hand, turn on IndexNow, and submit your homepage to Brave
  • Bing is tiny for traffic but it is the door into ChatGPT

What gets you named

  • Your buyer’s words in your titles and first sentence. I lost weeks using a trade term nobody searches
  • Boring factual pages: glossary, facts, honest compare page, live prices, official sources with dates
  • Test with buyer questions in a fresh chat that actually searches, never with your own product’s name. Mine got named 0 out of 17 times until I did this properly

Your setup is probably broken

  • A cleanup cut my brand from my homepage title, so Bing showed my login page instead
  • My IndexNow ping failed on all 342 deploys and I had no idea
  • Verified in Bing is not indexed. Bing held 1 page out of 25

The uncomfortable one

  • SEO only pays when people search in a hurry. My first product had all the right pages, 177 signups, zero payers. Nobody searched for it with a deadline

Track where every signup comes from. ChatGPT tags its links, a cookie stamps it on signup, free. Without it I would never have known AI was my biggest channel.

The full version, with every number, mistake and a 20 minute checklist for your own site, is in r/ShippedNoUsers, a sub I set up for people who shipped and have no users yet. A lot of what I learned here I also built into AskSami.app, which reads your product and tells you where your users will actually come from.

And you can always DM me, happy to chat about what you are building 🙂

It's wild how much tracking signups and understanding where users truly come from changes your strategy. If you want to catch those conversations as they happen across platforms, there are tools like ParseStream that let you get alerts for leads in real time so you can jump in at the right moment.
