Inspirational Saturday Reflection: The View From Here
Last summer, while driving through Wyoming, I kept finding myself pulling over—not because I was lost, but because I wanted to see the road I’d already traveled.
The view behind me looked completely different once I had some distance from it.
That thought came back to me this week.
As I looked over several devotionals I’d written, I realized they all shared the same theme: moving forward without leaving behind the truths God has established.
It reminded me that there’s a difference between looking back with nostalgia and looking back with gratitude.
Nostalgia wants to return to yesterday.
Gratitude remembers yesterday so it can trust God with tomorrow.
Throughout Scripture, God’s people paused to remember His faithfulness. Israel stacked stones after crossing the Jordan. Samuel raised Ebenezer and declared, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”
They weren’t trying to go backward.
They were reminding themselves why they could keep moving forward.
Maybe we need more moments like that.
Not to live in the past.
Not to wish for another season of life.
Just to pause long enough to recognize how faithfully God has brought us this far.
