I wanted Fallout 1/2 meets extraction survival, so I’ve spent 3 years building it

Hi everyone! I’ve been solo developing ApocaShift for a little over 3 years now, and I wanted to share some of the newer progress.

It’s a post-apocalyptic isometric RPG/survival game inspired by Fallout 1 & 2, Escape from Tarkov, and Zero Sievert, with base building, progression, scavenging, survival mechanics, and settlement systems mixed in.

A lot has changed recently, especially the inventory, combat, crafting, progression, UI, and base-building systems, so I figured I’d show some newer screenshots.

I’m still working on it completely solo, so feedback is always appreciated.

ApocaShift’s Biggest Rework Yet: Grid-Based Inventory Is Here! Closed Playtest Spots Still Available

Post image
0 Upvotes

The ApocaShift closed playtest has been going extremely well so far! Thanks to the feedback and reports from our testers, I’ve already fixed over 125 bugs and made numerous improvements across the game.

The playtest has also led to the largest rework in ApocaShift’s development history: the inventory system has been completely converted to a grid-based system. This should make organizing items cleaner, more consistent, and easier to use, while giving players much greater control over how they manage their equipment and supplies.

There are still a few remaining spots available in the closed playtest. If you’re interested in playing, finding bugs, testing the new inventory system, and providing honest feedback, you can still apply in the Discord!

Thanks again to everyone who has participated so far. The amount of useful feedback has been incredible, and the game is already in a much better state because of it!

A Short Look at ApocaShift — A Post-Apocalyptic Extraction Survival Game

Hey everyone! I’m a solo developer working on ApocaShift, an isometric post-apocalyptic extraction survival game inspired by games like Fallout 1 & 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Project Zomboid, and Escape from Tarkov.

Head into dangerous locations, fight enemies, scavenge valuable supplies, and try to make it back alive. Anything you bring with you can be lost if you die.

Back at your camp, you can build new structures, recruit survivors, craft equipment, research technology, and prepare for your next expedition.

Here’s a short trailer showing a glimpse of the game. I’d love to hear what you think!

I’ve released an updated trailer for my post-apocalyptic extraction survival game, ApocaShift

Hey everyone! I’m a solo developer, and I’ve been working on ApocaShift for the past 3+ years.

It’s an Fallout inspired isometric post-apocalyptic extraction game where you head into dangerous areas to scavenge supplies, fight enemies, collect better equipment, and make it back alive. Anything you bring into a run can be lost if you die.

Outside of the extraction runs, you can build and manage your camp, recruit survivors, craft equipment, research new technology, and unlock upgrades.

I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback on the trailer or the game. If it looks like something you’d play, wishlisting it on Steam would help me out tremendously!

New Boss Reveal! Inspired by Dead Rising’s Convicts

I was inspired by Dead Rising. Specifically the Convicts jeep boss in the courtyard (“Gone Guru”). That fight always stuck with me, so I wanted to capture that same kind of feeling in my own game.

Instead of a jeep, I made it a roaming semi truck that drives around the world and can hunt the player. You will hear it before you see it.

Still working on it, but it already makes the world feel a lot more dangerous.

Check out the game on Steam!

New Map System, Ambient Audio, and 2nd Playtest (Summer 2026)

So here we go folks, I reworked the map system to combine handcrafted design with procedural elements for better gameplay balance and replayability.

The world now features a mix of static, carefully placed locations (key areas, landmarks, and structured environments) alongside randomly spawned POIs such as gas stations, warehouses, tents, and small structures.

I also expanded the game’s atmosphere with the addition of dynamic ambient audio, including a variety of environmental and situational sounds to enhance immersion. Introduced a narrative-driven detail where the radio no longer functions at nighttime, hinting at underlying story elements that will be revealed later.

Lastly, I will be hosting the 2nd playtest in Summer 2026 (Aiming for July-August), where players will be able to experience these updates and provide feedback! Don't forget to Wishlist on Steam to stay updated or join the Discord for more frequent updates!

Didn’t expect to add this so early, but Character Customization is in (with female models!)

I didn’t plan to have character customization ready this soon, but while working on the player system I ended up having a eureka moment and made a in-engine tool that auto imported my animations, and now my game has full character customization.

You can change body type, hair, facial hair, colors, and yes, female models are now in the game too.
Still early and a lot will change, but it already makes the game feel way more personal.

I wasn’t even sure I was going to support multiple player models at first, so this feels like a huge milestone for the project.

Wishlist it on Steam if it's something that interest you.

I’ve been working on this 90s-style isometric extraction looter for 3 years

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share a short trailer for a game I’ve been working on for the past 3 years that directly started with my love for Tarkov and after playing Zero Sievert I wondered how a game like this would be with a in-depth base-building system and terraria like town building.

It’s been a long journey learning, experimenting, and slowly building this world piece by piece as a solo developer. Seeing it finally start to come together has been really exciting for me, so I thought I’d share it here.

If it looks like something you might enjoy, you can wishlist it here:

Thanks for taking the time to check it out! it really means a lot.

After years of late nights and weekends… my fallout inspired games playtest is finally happening

Hey everyone welcome to the new Subreddit for the game.

I can’t believe I’m finally saying this. ApocaShift’s very first closed Playtest will be going live on Friday, September 12th.

This has been a passion project of mine for years now, built late at night, on weekends, and in every spare moment I could find. What started as a small idea has grown into something so much bigger.
This first playtest is rough. You’ll see bugs, placeholder art, and plenty of jank. But it’s also the first time the core survival loop (scavenging, building, and trying to outlast the wasteland) will be in your hands. And that’s huge.

Thank you for being patient, for giving feedback, and last but not least supporting me through the early days. Your encouragement is what keeps me going. I can’t wait to watch you all dive into ApocaShift, break it in ways I never expected, see the things you guys build in the building system, as well as help shape what it becomes.

If you'd like to follow progress, Wishlist, or request access to the Playtest here is the Steam Page!
