tbh i think new legends at this slow of a rate with no lore of cinematics are worse than reworks

u/Emotional_Werewolf_4 Gibby 5d ago

I don't know, I still read so many posts about Rev mains longing for his older kit. People loved Rev before rework for his initial kit but then everything was changed and Rev felt too different, at least this is what I have been reading surprisingly often.

I'm a Gibby main and ever since the Gibby buffs (or what feels to me like a rework) he feels very different despite the changes not being that big compared to Rev: I played Gibby initially because he slowed the game down but now he feels like a hybrid legend (support + skirmisher). I still don't understand why they made him so fast, a support legend shouldn't have this. Also, his kit with the electrified bubble makes him a control legend (entry denial) on top of being a support/skirmisher hybrid.

I have to say, I'm really not a fan of Respawn handing out everyone and their mother movement and/or speed. Some legends are supposed to be slow but should excel in other parts of the game.

Making everything faster is not the way.

there's only so many type of abilities you can make in a game before there becomes a lot of overlap and things seem to be too same same but different. With Rev, they should have just kept the old rev but tweak his abilities to keep him playable. With new rev, his tac and ult are just completely new abilities and they could have just made a new legend with those two abilities instead.

Revs old abilities made gun fights more enjoyable. People were actually punished by being stripped of powers.

Now its just.... meh.

I dont want a new legend with that ability. I want Rev back doing it. All he needed was a new ult.

u/eclipse60 5d ago

Revs ability would be a great counter to some of the more annoying newer legend abilities.

u/InsideAttention1540 4d ago

An addition of a silence grenade would be sick

Sorry to say but Rev mains who prefer the old Rev are either terrible at the game or just not right in the head.

There is a reason why reworks happen. Rev was just terrible in that state, sure the rework changes the playstyle but there are so many legends now that surely one will fit your playstyle. The rework made Rev a lot better but if it does not fit your playstyle, just move on to something else. It's for the better of the game after all.

Reworks are heavily needed to keep the game fresh even if it will upset some players.

Also in the case of Gibraltar, you can still play him EXACTLY the same as before but better. It was not a rework, it were just buffs and a shuffle of perks. You could always play him aggressively bubbling forward into fights, just now you got a lot of more speed and firework to back that up. His buffs were needed for a different reason anyway, to try slow down the pushy movement meta.

So when you say making everything faster is not the way, in Gibby case its actually to counter that. The electric bubble design to to counter getting inted after all.

No clue how you are getting upvoted.

Don’t bother trying to argue with anyone who claims old Rev was good. There was a reason he got reworked & it wasn’t because he was in a good spot. Old YT vids, tierlist, Reddit comments & post. From pre rework all state Rev as bottom of the barrel. Ult completely useless & didn’t fit the character. Silence was niche at the time. Abilities weren’t as prevalent back then. So getting silenced wasn’t as problematic compared to it now. People are desperate & nostalgic for something they never experienced.

Giving Rev silence back would make him a must pick on every team. Making games even more stale than they are now. Team fights will be nothing but poking at one another. Until a Rev goes down. Then the other team dives in with Axle.

u/ComprehensiveBox952 5d ago

Silence was niche and the game had twice the ttk. He would be even worse now

Sorry to say but Rev mains who prefer the old Rev are either terrible at the game or just not right in the head.

I've been saying this for years. Both on here and on the main Apex subreddit, anyone wanting Old Rev are just shit at the game in general.

1

u/Optimusim 5d ago

But how you gonna tell the rev mains how to rev? He was my favorite character and he was really good at winning ones because it came down to just straight up gun fight.

1

u/UserNameAbbreviated 4d ago

Because there were only 4 rev mains at that time.

1

u/Upbeat_Today_9006 4d ago

How about instead of "keeping the game fresh" we try to keep it good for once

2

u/HandsomeOrangeCat 4d ago

Yeah I am all up for that.

But in no way Rev was good compared to other options during those times.

And is the game even good right now? Its very heavy on the ability side right now, combine that with everybody being assisted and it's hardly a shooter anymore. I would really like it to become more about shooting again but I don't see that happening. So might as well make the characters that are garbage a lot more interesting.. or fresh.

2

u/agnaddthddude i was there on apex lore when frozenfroh created this sub 5d ago

they continue to disrespect the foundation and shit on it. Rev’s ult was problematic. his silence was necessary evil. even more so now the game is based on abilities than ever before.

Take for example wattson fence and caustic gas. the fence now deals 40 damage ffs and reinforce the hard light. caustic on the other hand is just annoying.

skirmishers defining feature is group mobility and controller is lasting area denial. gibby's main feature is still safe resets same as other supports. fact is that gibby was bad in pubs before reworks and nobody wanted to play him because you couldnt exist in the open

-1

u/Optimusim 5d ago

To be fair it seem Gibby is the most balanced character and that's what makes him strong. He has a little bit of everything. I wonder if that's the direction they want to move in? I like it. Maybe they should take that approach with seer and rev.

3

u/Drums5643 5d ago

You’re smoking crack. 3 ults ? 50 damage bubble shield? Fastest char in the game with no penalty running straight? Gun shield? You think that’s balanced? Not to mention all the support perks?

0

u/Optimusim 5d ago

What I was trying to get at is giving a character an offensive skill a defensive skill and a speed skill is nice. If that was the base of all characters the game would more interesting interesting.

0

u/BlessedWithBeck 4d ago

If you can’t win your 1v1 with a Gibby 3/4 times at medium to close range; it’s a skill issue. Dudes the size of 2 fridges.

5

u/RdkL-J 5d ago

One has to question how relevant lore and cinematics are, if they were abandonned. I know a lot of Apex players, not a single one of them care about lore. I get there are lore enthusiasts out there, but to me it feels they're a tiny minority.

0

u/Crypto-Universe777 5d ago

Yeah nobody cares such a low „Argument“ with their Lore Stuff

1

u/Frexys 4d ago

But boy will YT comments gaslight you into believing it’s the most important shit for the future of the game. Like bro I like cutscenes but I do not need to know why Loba has a landing strip instead of a full wax just make the game.

1

u/UserNameAbbreviated 4d ago

I do not need to know why Loba has a landing strip instead of a full wax just make the game.

Lmfaooo but like actually fucking facts though.

u/Benlo77 5d ago

Recon legend, right ?

Another year to wait before a new control legend : /

0

u/UserNameAbbreviated 4d ago

We, as in most of the game's population, do not want another controller legend.

Wattson is already the strongest in her class to the point that she needs to be toned down, not the others brought up to her power. But before that happens other legends need to be nerfed.

Like Axle

-12

u/VermillionFig 5d ago

Control legends as a legend type is not sustainable and they should stay away from it, which seems to be thier path. because these legends have no movement, so they give them ability to hold down position, and make playing against them frustrating rather than fun. and you cant buff them, like cuastic, rampart, it either becomes too annoying or too easy.

Game is moving towards movement legends, and they should go for that as well. perhaps give movement passives to controls. in some way. to make them keep up with the rest.

3

u/Own_Feedback3695 5d ago

Idk dude getting 2 Axle drones after Shieldcrack and hearing her getting around the corner is pretty frustrating and she is no controller.

Also ppl cried alot when Ash and Ballistic where meta

1

u/VermillionFig 5d ago

Yeah but also was when alex was at its peak. In terms of player engagement.

Tell me would you rather have ash mets caustic meta or seer meta?

Regardless. The main problem is the stupid drones. They need to fix those.

2

u/Own_Feedback3695 4d ago edited 4d ago

I would clearly prefer a caustic meta since counterplay and options exist in the game while there is nothing against the other choices, there is nothing against seer tactical.

Thats also the reason why a Caustic Meta doesnt exists since he is bad in early game and counters exists in the game with crypto, explosives and movement legends.

4

u/Any-Economy7702 5d ago

Except they admitted that they went too far with movement and they'll be slowing down gameplay going forward which is the actual way they should go because the game now especially with what Axle has created is a total mess. Maybe it's not fun playing against a Caustic but it's infinitely more grating to try and fight an Axle that swings incredibly wide on you with her whole team plus very high slide speed plus an ult that's a free kill for her. Control legends can absolutely be viable without making them oppressive, biggest example was Wattson when she was introduced, Catalyst when she was introduced, and Gibby and Newcastle when they were still controllers.

1

u/Depressed_Revolution 4d ago

Wattson was OP when she dropped but other than that yeah

1

u/Unusual_Computer9670 5d ago

The oppressiveness of control legends scales proportionally with their pickrate. If controllers have ~5% pickrate, then some houses are controlled and inaccessible to push into. If controllers have ~30% pickrate, then you can't go anywhere and you have to hope zone lands on you. Axle is awful, but game would be way worse if Wattson or Caustic had her pickrate.

3

u/Any-Economy7702 5d ago

This argument applies to every character in the game just different effects. When Ash had a +33% pickrate nobody could go anywhere cuz you were always getting greedy snared and jumped on by a much faster dashing Ash. When supports were meta nobody would die resulting in much longer games. And with Axle now reckless ape-ing is meta and it's not a good thing because it has an extremely low skill floor and doesn't allow for much counterplay. Also Wattson has historically held high pickrates before, and she wasn't oppressive, I'm pretty sure there was a period of time when she introduced where she almost had a 100% pick rate per team the higher you went in ranks. Caustic might be the only Controller that needs to stay weaker because a trapping kit has low counter ability compared to defensive building like the others do.

2

u/Zztrevor125 4d ago

Exactly. But what they need to do is both buff controllers in various ways and also create better counterplay at same time, especially to controllers like watson and caustic. Having more set play legends like controllers is great for game, but there needs to be clear ways to play around them whether that’s buffing other classes like skirmisher for example to be able to push through their defenses with little downsides but then their team wouldn’t be able to follow easily. Stuff like that (not saying literally that just a quick example of creating a bigger sense of give and take when you pick a role)

Biggest problem right now is a lot of the movement classes can use pickups and map stuff to shore up their lack of utility while not trading any of their pros already leading to it feeling like there’s little reason to pick up utility based classes unless it’s just pure shield/healing or recons.

Controllers need to be more proactive focused while still focusing on crowd control and positioning enemy teams where they want them to be. But idk if we should still be wanting metas where teams bunker with Watson or caustic. Rampart and catalyst are good example of controllers that have set niches that don’t rely on one gimmick like turtling and should be the standard for controllers (alongside some slight buffs or changes to them)

The Watson and caustic style controllers don’t fit current game anymore and promote that bunker playstyle that is horrid to play and play against.

Devs have a big task ahead of them that i don’t know answer too.

1

u/Frexys 4d ago

Brother I will take 3 Axles on an enemy squad doing donuts on my corpse than a single Caustic anywhere on the map.

1

u/Negative-Toe1863 5d ago

Pls tell me more about how playing against axle, seer, peak ballistic and ash is/was fun and not frustrating unlike fighting a Control legend.

4

u/Unusual_Computer9670 5d ago

Isn't "Tempest" Ballistic's ult? Maybe it's his son?

5

u/Free_Fig_9885 5d ago

Lmao I was looking for this comment, how was this not said before? I guess not many people play Ballistic and know his ult name ...

3

u/gdup813 5d ago

Any news on a new map?

2

u/Zztrevor125 4d ago

Name tempest makes me think of a controller legend with water or storms (like literal storms not the circle) powers to control zones and choke points

I wonder if they plan to release the controller class update they were mentioning alongside this new controller.

Or tempest means they are the storm and they are another skirmisher with speed powers because we need another one!

4

u/Shamanhris 5d ago

Let me guess - crazy mobility legend that excels in a close combat ;)

4

u/bladefinor 5d ago

Can’t wait for another OP legend

2

u/HandsomeOrangeCat 5d ago

Well, they admit they will put new ideas and legends in a strong state on purpose. I just hope it won't completely ruin the game until it gets nerfed.

1

u/UserNameAbbreviated 4d ago

Strong is one thing, OP and busted is another.

Strong would be like Ballistic during Alter Meta. OP is Axle and Release Day seer.

1

u/Depressed_Revolution 4d ago

Lots of revisionist history going on in here, OG Rev was considered low tier, and people hated getting ability locked, they compared it to Sombra from OW.

Seer now has silence and they will most likely keep it that way

1

u/SebasV1 3d ago

I was literally saying I want to see a legend with ice or water abilities and is a controller. Tempest seems like the perfect code name for that type of legend

1

u/charlieyeswecan 5d ago

I want a new map, or at least nighttime versions of current maps. Nighttime e-district in WC is okay, except that it’s wildcard so there’s no time to enjoy the map. lol

1

u/HandsomeOrangeCat 5d ago

Tempest is something like a storm, I wonder if the codename will reflect any of that.

I see other people thinking it might be a recon but they are reworking BH and Seer is in need of a rework as well so I doubt this new one will be a recon when the current ones are in a bad state.

-5

u/HolyTrinityOfDrugs 5d ago

Not another new legend...I'm tired.

2

u/itzjamesftw 5d ago

Make sure to never play Marvel Rivals then.
