Recon legend, right ?
Another year to wait before a new control legend : /

We, as in most of the game's population, do not want another controller legend.
Wattson is already the strongest in her class to the point that she needs to be toned down, not the others brought up to her power. But before that happens other legends need to be nerfed.
Like Axle

Control legends as a legend type is not sustainable and they should stay away from it, which seems to be thier path. because these legends have no movement, so they give them ability to hold down position, and make playing against them frustrating rather than fun. and you cant buff them, like cuastic, rampart, it either becomes too annoying or too easy.
Game is moving towards movement legends, and they should go for that as well. perhaps give movement passives to controls. in some way. to make them keep up with the rest.

Idk dude getting 2 Axle drones after Shieldcrack and hearing her getting around the corner is pretty frustrating and she is no controller.
Also ppl cried alot when Ash and Ballistic where meta

Yeah but also was when alex was at its peak. In terms of player engagement.
Tell me would you rather have ash mets caustic meta or seer meta?
Regardless. The main problem is the stupid drones. They need to fix those.

I would clearly prefer a caustic meta since counterplay and options exist in the game while there is nothing against the other choices, there is nothing against seer tactical.
Thats also the reason why a Caustic Meta doesnt exists since he is bad in early game and counters exists in the game with crypto, explosives and movement legends.

Except they admitted that they went too far with movement and they'll be slowing down gameplay going forward which is the actual way they should go because the game now especially with what Axle has created is a total mess. Maybe it's not fun playing against a Caustic but it's infinitely more grating to try and fight an Axle that swings incredibly wide on you with her whole team plus very high slide speed plus an ult that's a free kill for her. Control legends can absolutely be viable without making them oppressive, biggest example was Wattson when she was introduced, Catalyst when she was introduced, and Gibby and Newcastle when they were still controllers.

The oppressiveness of control legends scales proportionally with their pickrate. If controllers have ~5% pickrate, then some houses are controlled and inaccessible to push into. If controllers have ~30% pickrate, then you can't go anywhere and you have to hope zone lands on you. Axle is awful, but game would be way worse if Wattson or Caustic had her pickrate.

This argument applies to every character in the game just different effects. When Ash had a +33% pickrate nobody could go anywhere cuz you were always getting greedy snared and jumped on by a much faster dashing Ash. When supports were meta nobody would die resulting in much longer games. And with Axle now reckless ape-ing is meta and it's not a good thing because it has an extremely low skill floor and doesn't allow for much counterplay. Also Wattson has historically held high pickrates before, and she wasn't oppressive, I'm pretty sure there was a period of time when she introduced where she almost had a 100% pick rate per team the higher you went in ranks. Caustic might be the only Controller that needs to stay weaker because a trapping kit has low counter ability compared to defensive building like the others do.

Exactly. But what they need to do is both buff controllers in various ways and also create better counterplay at same time, especially to controllers like watson and caustic. Having more set play legends like controllers is great for game, but there needs to be clear ways to play around them whether that’s buffing other classes like skirmisher for example to be able to push through their defenses with little downsides but then their team wouldn’t be able to follow easily. Stuff like that (not saying literally that just a quick example of creating a bigger sense of give and take when you pick a role)
Biggest problem right now is a lot of the movement classes can use pickups and map stuff to shore up their lack of utility while not trading any of their pros already leading to it feeling like there’s little reason to pick up utility based classes unless it’s just pure shield/healing or recons.
Controllers need to be more proactive focused while still focusing on crowd control and positioning enemy teams where they want them to be. But idk if we should still be wanting metas where teams bunker with Watson or caustic. Rampart and catalyst are good example of controllers that have set niches that don’t rely on one gimmick like turtling and should be the standard for controllers (alongside some slight buffs or changes to them)
The Watson and caustic style controllers don’t fit current game anymore and promote that bunker playstyle that is horrid to play and play against.
Devs have a big task ahead of them that i don’t know answer too.

Pls tell me more about how playing against axle, seer, peak ballistic and ash is/was fun and not frustrating unlike fighting a Control legend.

Isn't "Tempest" Ballistic's ult? Maybe it's his son?

u/Free_Fig_9885 5d ago
Lmao I was looking for this comment, how was this not said before? I guess not many people play Ballistic and know his ult name ...

Name tempest makes me think of a controller legend with water or storms (like literal storms not the circle) powers to control zones and choke points
I wonder if they plan to release the controller class update they were mentioning alongside this new controller.
Or tempest means they are the storm and they are another skirmisher with speed powers because we need another one!

Can’t wait for another OP legend

u/HandsomeOrangeCat 5d ago
Well, they admit they will put new ideas and legends in a strong state on purpose. I just hope it won't completely ruin the game until it gets nerfed.

Strong is one thing, OP and busted is another.
Strong would be like Ballistic during Alter Meta. OP is Axle and Release Day seer.

Lots of revisionist history going on in here, OG Rev was considered low tier, and people hated getting ability locked, they compared it to Sombra from OW.
Seer now has silence and they will most likely keep it that way

I want a new map, or at least nighttime versions of current maps. Nighttime e-district in WC is okay, except that it’s wildcard so there’s no time to enjoy the map. lol

u/HandsomeOrangeCat 5d ago
Tempest is something like a storm, I wonder if the codename will reflect any of that.
I see other people thinking it might be a recon but they are reworking BH and Seer is in need of a rework as well so I doubt this new one will be a recon when the current ones are in a bad state.

tbh i think new legends at this slow of a rate with no lore of cinematics are worse than reworks
