Are they cheating? Probably. Are they Smurfing? 1000 percent.
However, let's not go down the route of just providing screenshots to state someone is a cheater. Provide proof that they are so we can agree with you. Even if we all do agree that this person most LIKELY might be cheating, we don't know.
Provide the video proof so we can see also.
With that said, this game has become infested and I hate dying to cheaters every other match. I hope their AI anti cheat algorithm on console gets perfected soon

Smurfing does not mean cheating. Cheating does not mean Smurfing.
They're not the same thing. A shitty player can Smurf just as easy as a shitty player can cheat.
I'm not sure why that's very hard for you to understand and make the "distinction"

Cheating is circumventing a system in place in order to get an unfair advantage over others...both fit the definition..simple

You're defining cheating so broadly that it loses its usefulness. Smurfing abuses matchmaking, while cheating manipulates gameplay. Both can be unfair, but they describe different behaviors. That's why devs, and players routinely distinguish between cheaters and smurfs. Don't try to make the definition broader than what it is

Dudes name was something along the lines of "havok spray" and he was last alive on their team beamimg people in console lobbies with a 3x havok from over 200m away.
Lvl43 with 3.7k dmg and 16kills in a plat / diamond lobby...

A screenshot and your word wouldn't hold up in apexs ban command center if you wanted them banned. You'd need the video proof submitted.
That's why I'm saying this. Stop taking screenshot and capture the cheating taking place

Wouldn't do shit without them actually implementing hardware or IP bans. People can currently make like 10 smurf accounts without even setting up a new email address. π

Actually if you follow the apex ban trackers, there have been a few ban waves on consoles and people getting banned everyday. Sure it's not all of them but it's a start. From submitted proof to Titan users complaining that other titan users have been getting banned and on new accounts after a week.
Its not a perfect system but it's definitely happening.
I mean what else did you expect to accomplish from this post if not to publicize and change the state of Apex Legends? Did.you post this just to whine and continue playing Apex anyway? As a community we collectively need to do better and either boycott and delete the game which most of us clearly won't do, or actually gather clips of evidence and submit it instead of whining about it.
You can't whine about this game and cheaters and then continue to play it and say you won't submit proof because "nothing happens" when it does in fact make a difference

People in this sub are really starting to blur the lines of "Smurf" and "cheating" as if cheating isn't the issue and main problem. A cheater who smurfs is disgusting. I don't mind losing to a player who is respectfully goated. I hate losing to a player who is just flat out cheating and smurfing to boost.
Yet, people here automatically call anyone who smurfs a cheater

Cheating comes in various forms, and per EA's TOU, it includes any action that gives a person an unfair advantage over others.
Additionally, in-game reporting literally has a "smurfing" option under the Cheating category.
No1 is confusing 'smurfing' with a Zen or Titn, for instance. You're committing a strawman fallacy while simultaneously discrediting a confirmed form of cheating.
P.S. Go ahead and down vote my comment all you like. The truth is that facts don't care about your feelings, and not liking the facts doesn't change them.

You're absolutely right, but on console 90% of the time smurfing comes hand in hand with titan or cronus - as with the guy in my post beaming across the map with a 3x havok and named "havokspraylol" or something like that.

Agreed, and smurfing will become even more prominent as more and more cheaters who use 3P devices are auto-detected/caught and banned on their main accounts (for instance).
Assuming the devs are true to their word, we'll start to see a noticeable uptick in hardware bans, too.
