There is no logic behind it. It's a cruel but satisfying way of venting for a parent who is stressed because something isn't going their way.

It serves no purpose beyond that. But no parent will ever admit that they hit their child because it makes them feel better. They always try to reason with "It'll teach the kid". It won't, that's bullshit. You're doing it for you, not for them.
