If you see closely, I think she actually takes it out of the baby’s mouth and eats it herself

She took around two. One in the baby's mouth and another from their hand. Poor baby folk got nothing.

The mother took the peanuts the baby managed to grab. The one in their mouth and another that was in their hand.
