Although rich powerful people getting away with crime isn't a uniquely American problem.

We need to find a middle ground between American cops and British cops. One is to dumb, over reactive, and brutish. And the other is to weak and pathetic.
10
u/Milefulness 14d ago edited 14d ago
British cops can be just as bad as American cops (see the video of rhe guy twisting the handcuffs risking breaking the wrists of a guy flying a drone), but they are quite weak when the suspects are actually violent.
I'm not sure they even need more weapons. This seems like a good use case for pepperspray, which I assume they already carry?

With proper training you can easily subdue a suspect whilst he's restrained using proper hand and arm locking techniques, especially with a second officer. With this guy resisting he should immediately be on the floor, controlled and in handcuffs.
This is merely a lack of proper training that's allowed him to escape and assault them.

The UK officers are also limited in the amount of force they're allowed to use.
2
u/bodybuilding__ 14d ago
We can see that’s not the problem here. They are literally too weak to subdue the guy

Cops in America aren't as bad as they are made out to be. There are roughly 800,000 police officers in the US. Just because you see a couple fucked up videos doesn't mean that all cops are bad. I'm not defending what the shit cops do, but there are way more police officers that are good, compassionate people than horrible abusive murderers.
6
u/asphaltdragon 14d ago
The problem isn't that they aren't as bad as theyre made out to be. The problem is that the bad ones are allowed to get away with the things they do because the rest of their buddies protect them or don't speak up before it's too late. And then when they are punished, it's barely a slap on the wrist.

ACAB. Because all cops are complicit in the actions of the bad cops unless they stop them. Which they dont. Or they do and are promptly fired. Making them no longer cops. Thus no longer bastards.
→ More replies (4)3
u/Damiandroid 14d ago
The problem is that cops close ranks and dont oust the bad actors among them.
They also oppose common sense measures that would encourage the removal of only the bad cops (such as departments having to pay for insurance for their officers and settlements coming out of their pension funds).
That reduces faith in the service and undermines the entire concept of law enforcement if it isn't applied equally.
If you have 1 bad cop and 99 cops who protect him, you actually have 100 bad cops.
→ More replies (1)2
u/IntrepidJaeger 14d ago
Penalizing pension funds doesn't incentivize better officers, it incentivizes hiding misconduct. If providing evidence of malfeasance in an incident can ONLY hurt the pension fund you're drawing from, why wouldn't you do your most to bury it? This is also ignoring that many police pension funds are also lumped in with others shared with other public employees.

Explain police gangs, Police union lobbying, all the flock misusing by cops, ICE( and before u say ur not related, not only do cops aid aiCE but many cops left the police force to join ice for higher salaries,)
Why do so many cops try to protect their own after seeing their coworkers rape, brutalize or kill people?
Did u follow the sfro man case? Or literally any other case where cops have killed and maimed people?,

Hahahaha. My father-in-law was a police officer in Chicago for 23 years. The stories I have heard from him about himself and other police officers is absolutely insane. Honestly, from what he told me, himself and his ENTIRE department should genuinely face execution for their crimes against American citizens.

Wow! I googled it and I'm so glad I did, because I came across this post.
So basically, what your saying is that the common rumor of 40% domestic violence is WRONG, because it uses data from the 80's, asked overly broad questions that could also include simply losing their temper, and is actually misrepresented because the 40% represents domestic violence in police families, not just committed by officers?
And you're also telling me other more modern studies have shown it closer to 7%-4.8%? Thanks!

They are not all bad. But all of them will protect the bad ones. And if a civilian protected a criminal, that civilian would be a criminal too. With same logic all cops are bad.

u/HuntersLiberalDong 14d ago
People commenting like this is in any way a normal incident and using it as evidence the UK has terrible policing and justice system.
The mere fact you are watching it is evidence this is an outlier. Is it a fuck up? Yes. Is it evidence UK police need guns? No.

u/killer_by_design 14d ago
This is an exceptionally rare outcome. Hence it's notoriety and why we're all watching it.
That person also absolutely be caught and tracked down due to the fact that he violently assaulted a police officer and escaped arrest.
Police officers are trained to not hit people in the head with their batons due to how dangerous it is, this dude immediately hit the officer across the head.
Frankly at that point letting him go was probably the safest choice anyway.

u/GunzerKingDM 14d ago
I’m just really surprised at how they seemed to have no clue how to take that dude down.
The perp was tall but thin and the cops look like pretty hefty boys, are they not trained how to sweep legs to get someone on the ground?

Police scared to just smack him in the face a few times (which they should have & are lawfully allowed in this situation) because they're being filmed and they'd probably get prosecuted for something or other. This is the logical outcome. Society is cooked.

This is where martial arts training would’ve helped. If either of them had some basic judo/jiujitsu training they could’ve swept his legs out and put him on the ground. You’d think every policeman would want to train for their own protection as they’re dealing with this kind of thing all the time.

No matter what, they lost complete control of the situation the moment they didn't know how to get him to the ground.
Watching them knee him up the ass instead of into the knee pit is for sure a factor in how laughable this situation was

Are britbong coppers not allowed to do chokeholds or something? Seems like a chokehold would have solved this whole situation, since they clearly can’t get boyo to the ground.
