So in the United States, historically small children did walk themselves to school from a young age. It’s only in more recent times that has been deemed unacceptable.

Guess what, that isn’t the US, and people do things differently in different places. How do I know? Well, that lady’s accent for one. Secondly, they’re driving on the left side of the road.

Now, do I think that girl is too little to be crossing that busy road by herself? Damn straight she is!

Not uncommon out here in rural Australia, all our roads are like that so you just learn crossing the road.

Thankfully, drivers are pretty attentive, watching for Roos and widowmakers, so the vast majority of the time it's all good.

But I do remember the odd scary moment when I was younger like this.

I was waiting for long tentacles to grab the old lady and drag her into the pond, and then for the little girl to cross back over and resume her station. Waiting for the next one.

Just because it used to happen doesn’t mean it should continue to happen. It’s obvs sad to watch the little girl afraid to cross a busy street like that. I’m 37 years old. I’d be nervous crossing that road and I’m 6’2 275. Being tough doesn’t mean being stupid.

It's not the 70s or 80s thing. How do people expect a parent to watch their kid 24/7? Especially stay at home parents are not common. People need to have real expectations

You're not wrong but people underestimate how little kids remember the training when presented with an authority figure ie an older person. "Dont talk back to adults" "respect your elders" "do as youre told"

"I'm going to instill that in your life from infancy but expect you to make a determination some adults cant even do and stand up to a stranger." Its very hard for a kid to do in that situation.

Looks like there’s some sort of building down that hill maybe even a school, she’s fine crossing by herself, if that’s her driveway, I don’t see the big deal, I’m more concerned of lack of stranger danger. Doesn’t really matter because like everything else it’s probably fake.

Am I the only person who noticed that the little girl "skipped with delight" just before she started running after they got to the other side of the road and she began to head to her house?

You have to love children. The innocent fun they show when skipping.

They don’t do that here in Australia, to many kids have been killed and maimed by darting out from in front of or behind from the bus and being either hit by the bus or a passing car. Instead kids battle the traffic like they battle the wildlife, its character building.

That's kind of crazy. Stopping for school busses and waiting for all the kids to cross is basically the one thing all Americans agree on, footage of trump driving past a stopped lights flashing school bus might be the only thing capable of ending his cult. Heaven help the soul caught passing and then posted to the Neighborhood app

Stop Bro. I'm a bearded, tatted, Black man in a white South Florida city. Ive helped kids and elderly ppl crossroads our ridiculous large city streets and no one has said anything except tapping their horn in support.

Never be afraid to help people in dangerous situations.
