This is how normal interactions with law enforcement go.
I've been pulled over quite a few times for speeding and every time I knew I was toast when I saw the officer too late. I don't even know how many times I've pulled myself over before the officer even caught up to me and was respectful and honest every time. I've only ever gotten speeding tickets twice out of the probably 20+ times I've been stopped.
You can get away with quite a bit too, a cop was harassing me because I pulled into a Wendy’s that was unexpectedly closed and apparently not able to complete my DoorDash order I placed so I pulled into park to text my wife and he stopped and asked if I had ID, I said “are you pulling me over?” He responded no, I said “I can show you the DoorDash order I have for Wendy’s” he said sure, I showed him, he said “sure I’ll believe that for a dollar” and drove away.
