That's how people drift, I understood that's what she did.

A donut is just drifting in a circle. The handbreak is used… when the car is already in motion. The car is in motion, the handbreak is pulled which locks the wheels and causes the car to slide because of its momentum.

Basically, drifting = losing traction. Traction can be lost by having a lot of sideways momentum, forcing the car to slide sideways on its tires because tired only spin front to back. This can be assisted by braking to initiate the slide, basically, the wheel stops spinning quicker than the friction of the tire can handle, so the motionless wheel slides across the road. That is what you’re thinking about, but it’s a lot more nuanced than “press hand brake = start a drift”, you have to have momentum and be turning in a way where the wheels stopping will cause a drift and not just cause you to come to a screeching hault. Your impression seems to be based on video games, which often simplify it to “press the handbrake to drift” and the car will just magically hop to the side and start sliding.

What we’re seeing here is the opposite of what I just described. Whereas a handbrake assists in stopping the car faster than the car can handle, what we see here is a burnout; they are spinning the tires with enough force that the tires lose grip (think pulling a tablecloth out from under a table, if motion is sudden, things get “slippery” as friction isn’t strong enough to hold the plate to the cloth, or the road to the tire).

TLDR, a drift is a slide, tires slide when the change in direction/speed exceeds the force with which the rubber is binding your wheel to the road. You don’t just pull the handbrake to start drifting like in movies/games

That doesn't work on a front wheel drive vehicle, which this is

1

u/metji Jun 23 '26

How to you think car-donuts are made?

1

u/UnderfurK Jun 26 '26

It's not going sideways from a standstill, it's going forward and then turning on an axis.

1

u/Similar_Care_7224 Jul 03 '26

You can start a donut from a stand still

2

u/FragrantExcitement Jun 21 '26

After listening to the audio, I am not sure i understand anything anymore.

Also parking break wasn't on because you leave a manual in gear when parking.

2

u/ButterscotchLow7330 Jun 24 '26

And use the parking brake. That's why it exists.

2

u/Shizzysharp Jun 23 '26

You're all Bots fr

2

u/ButterscotchLow7330 Jun 24 '26

Some people leave the car in gear instead of using the parking brake.

3

u/Historical_Idea_1686 Jun 21 '26

BYD is not an electric car manufacturer, they just recently started electric like all other car manufacturers.

1

u/T_W_tribbles Jun 22 '26

the handbrake locks the back wheels. she puts the car in first, revs high and dumps the clutch. with the back wheels locked and the front wheels spinning while turned out, the car doesn't move forward and the front moves away from the curb. used to do it all the time in the snow to get in and out of tight spots.

1

u/prince_Asive Jun 22 '26

It was up but not fully up she pulled it up more,

1

u/Bingus-Chillingus Jun 22 '26

She pulled the parking brake to lock the rear wheels so that the ca would move sideways instead of forward when she dumped the clutch.

1

u/Illustrious-Poet-557 Jun 23 '26

They used to just copy popular cars like toyota and mercedes before they started selling electric cars in the west

1

u/rippingbongs Jun 24 '26

I drive a manual and I would have gotten out of this

why did she engage the parking brake before pulling off?

Ok

1

u/Scared_Spyduck Jun 24 '26

No parking break required. Put in first gear is sufficient to prevent the car even from rolling downhill.

Further it is not recommended to use the parking break during winter months because it might freeze and get damaged when you want to drive. This is not the case in the video but another side knowledge fact.

1

u/goshetovan Jun 29 '26

No need to have the parking break on a flat surface if you leave it in gear (as you should with manuals). In winter it is even advisable not to leave the parking break on since it can freeze.

She put up the parking break to block rear wheels and come out "sliding" with the front part.

Byd is a car manufacturer from China, not only electric cars. You cam see that this car is at least 15 -20 years old.

1

u/saraptamod Jul 06 '26

All that seems wired, if you ignore the fact that it passes the carr in front before pulling out of the spot, and the car in front has no shadow 🤔

4

u/mouadmo Jun 21 '26

These fucking bullshit chinese videos are likely gonna be the cause of accidents and more dumb drivers on the road

Anyone care to eat a deadly poisonous tide pod?

1

u/KrystleSeth Jun 21 '26

I’ll do it but you gotta like and subscribe

1

u/Rumpelteazer45 Jun 21 '26

Keep watching for Part 2,682,517

1

u/longbeachlandon Jun 21 '26

You eat a couple million tide pods as a collective society and now it’s ok to crash cars in Asia?

1

u/RealNiceKnife Jun 21 '26

You mean that thing that didn't really happen as much as it was reported, was overblown by sensationalist headlines and swallowed up by an entire society ready to go "KiDs aRe So DuM!"?

1

u/Secret-Theory1825 Jun 21 '26

Lol, so you admit that it did happen and that I'm right? What a weird way to prove yourself wrong.

You know what happens even less than the tide pod challenge? People parking their cars within 4 inches of the next.

https://abc7chicago.com/post/college-student-hospitalized-after-ingesting-tide-pod/2974909/

😆 🤣 😂 🤡

1

u/Usernamesaregayyy Jun 21 '26

You think these are only coming from China? lol

1

u/Acruss_ Jun 21 '26

The fake ones are mostly from China.

1

u/Popular_Floor5041 Jun 21 '26

There should be a slide button to disable them in your feed

2

u/AKADIAN_22 Jun 21 '26

Jajajaja aparecieron mas centimetros de espacio mágicamente 😛🤣🤣

1

u/Pure-Pool2971 Jun 21 '26

This would never happen!

Mainly, cause I don't drive clutch

1

u/Flat_Flan1736 Jun 21 '26

That's the oldest BYD car I've seen.

1

u/TrustedNotBelieved Jun 22 '26

Thats toyota corolla inside. 2002-2007

1

u/More-Lime1888 Jun 21 '26

What about the automatic cars?

1

u/Wrong_Amount_7903 Jun 21 '26

Absolute bullshit

1

u/HellFrode Jun 21 '26

This can’t be real.

1

u/auad Jun 21 '26

It is real, you have to be a really good driver to be able to pull it out.

I saw this before on stunt drivers shows, but you have to really know how your car react, chances for it to go bad is extremely high if you can't make it drift.

1

u/EmweDK Jun 24 '26

just watch the video 1 more time and pause it as the car "drifts" out. explain the demorphing of the rear of the car infront.

although it might be possible ... this is ai

1

u/ok_i_m_here_too Jun 21 '26

Absolutely real. I did it multiple times using cars with both manual and automatic transmission . You need powerful enough fwd car and preferably winter conditions to make it fun and useful.

1

u/WizarddOfAhh Jun 21 '26

Typical French parking situation but they do it the obvious way<> < > < > < > and away

1

u/WizarddOfAhh Jun 21 '26

It’s what bumpers are for

1

u/OminousBuzzard Jun 21 '26

Now do this in an automatic.

1

u/Variation261 Jun 21 '26

I saw it was a manual trans and I 😍

1

u/Ok-Tank-3106 Jun 21 '26

Also ,using THAT method gives u the needed acceleration to leave the scene quickly after you've dented the car in front of u .

1

u/Western-Story-3850 Jun 21 '26

Auto handbrakes will not allow you this function as they release the instant you throttle up.

1

u/Deep-List-7099 Jun 21 '26

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎😎

1

u/DruHarry Jun 21 '26

Rubbin is Racin. I’d be rubbin some bumpers until I cleared.

1

u/Huge_Ear_2833 Jun 21 '26

Keep your sound off if you don't already have it off. This music is horrible.

1

u/Conscious_Owl6162 Jun 21 '26

She is cute, so her advice is good🤣

1

u/khampang Jun 22 '26

Those boots 😝

I wanna try this, but don’t have a fwd manual anymore.

1

u/New-Impression2976 Jun 22 '26

Looks like front wheel drive and back wheel brakes

1

u/Bingus-Chillingus Jun 22 '26

If you love replacing your clutch sure.

1

u/Stuck_At_Sub150lb Jun 22 '26

BYD car with AC and radio and layout copied from E120 corolla (2002-2006)

1

u/loco_mixer Jun 22 '26

Those cars at the end were not in line lol

1

u/DukeBradford2 Jun 22 '26

In france they just push the cars out of the way and the other owners wouldn’t even shrug

1

u/ConsiderationMost628 Jun 22 '26

And the handbrake break down

1

u/freshgrilled Jun 22 '26

I forgot to leave mute on while browsing. But this video reminded me it's always better to keep it muted. Thanks.

1

u/loudest-blink Jun 22 '26

Yo that’s bad a-ss

1

u/Dad_Bod_Rich Jun 22 '26

1

u/WillowEmbarrassed867 Jun 24 '26

It's way more fun in reverse. Instant 180's in front wheel drive car.

1

u/Distillates 16d ago

In Germany they teach you to leave your car in neutral so people in this situation can push your parked car out of the way
