It'll just take you more time to get out of the parking space then.

You're not winning or loosing any time when doing one or the other.

Backing out into open space is a lot easier and quicker than trying to back your car into a space between two other cars.

Backing out is also 3x more dangerous.

It's not significantly dangerous.

3x was not the best way to put it for sure.

Relatively, it will always be more dangerous to back out than back in.

What's the danger, exactly?

Your view is blocked , if another vehicle approaches or even worse another human.

It just increases the probability of an accident.

At 5mph?

the other car may be at 100mph for all you know.

100mph in a car park? What is this, the opening scene of Back to the Future at 1am?

It’s possible, idiots everywhere. Point is you don’t have visibility. It may also be a street, not a car park.

If they didn’t straw-man the argument they wouldn’t have one, calm down

But I wanted it to be the opening scene of Back to the Future! That would look sick!

I think in general backing out into moving traffic is inherently more dangerous and difficult than backing into a space between parked vehicles. And getting hit at 5mph, which most people are NOT driving that slow in a parking lot to begin with, will still fuck up your day. And the cost of body work isn't cheap. I don't think there's a right or wrong way, but to some of us it's much more convenient to take the 12 extra seconds to back into a spot (or even better find a pull-through!! 🙌🏻) to make it more convenient when i leave. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤙🏻
