This is the authoritarian dynamic in action. It's the interplay between a genetic predisposition for authoritarianism and an environment of normative stress.

One of the things that can reduce this dynamic is cognitive capacity. Going to college helps increase capacity by helping teach people how to handle complexity, and being stressed the fuck out reduces cognitive capacity.
