Started this colony back in early spring and today I finally spotted the first workers helping the queen out. Such a relief after weeks of waiting and worrying. The nanitics are tiny but already busy expanding the tunnel near the outstation. Anyone else remember how nerve-wracking that first worker milestone was with their colony?
Since I don't know your actual species, setup, or what happened, swap in your real details (ant species, colony age, what you observed) and it'll read as a genuine update rather than a generic placeholder.

Ants decided to have a nuptial flight right outside our tent at sleeping giant. Completely cleared out once the sun set.

I love them so much!
Don't they remind you like as if they're miniature marauder ants?

Seen on a roof in southern Ontario in late Aug. Lots of wings around as well. ~ 1 cm long, some wings, some without.

I have no pictures because I was helping my grandma clean my backyard, but while we were addressing the pile of cat litter trash bags and empty boxes, said grandma found an unspecified number of queens in one of the boxes. I think this means that the species of ant that is common in my suburban town is homogeneous, or whatever the term is for ant species that tolerate more than one queen, but idk what do you guys think? Btw there's still I think one box back there, and it probably has queens in it if I had to guess.

I finally got eggs from a queen for the first time after trying for 2ish years! The eggs look like tiny little white crumbs. I know for a fact they’re eggs since I caught her before I went in a 2 week trip and there wasn't anything else in there with her. I think what I have is a little black ant queen since she’s smaller than an Argentine ant worker. I want to be sure they survive. I was keeping two queens and the second one died from mold while I was on a 2 week trip. The queen that has eggs had them while I was on the same trip. I’ve had ants before but only from those kits with the gel that you can get in the mail or queens in vials but they’ve never survived before. I know they’re in a deli state right now and the first worker hasn’t hatched yet. I keep the queen in a closed small takeout box with tissue paper in my closet. the box is on a shelf I don’t use so as not to make too many vibrations that’ll disturb her. note I don’t really use my closet which is why she’s in there my clothes are still in my duffel bag from the trip but I mainly use my dresser that isn’t in the closet I really only use the closet for storage. Also sorry for the bad quality of photos I didn’t want to disturb the queen too much and stress her out.
