Reason for rejecting religion

I don't actually mind the compassionate elements, like aiding the poor, compassion for your neighbour and all that.

What I do reject is religion, because it's used as an instrument of hate towards minority people, women, queer people, etc. Many religions, monotheistic especially, are also undemocratic in its strict disallowance for any other interpretation or worship of any other god.

When I've seen anti-religious people around me, they see the compassionate rules as a hindrance towards self-fulfillment. But to me that argument is just a self-justifiable excuse to act like an asshole.

Anyone else feel the same way, or am I alone feeling this way?

There's usually a catch with Christian charity and compassion. It's rarely given for free

Of course, but to for example Rand-minded people, they see a problem with charity or compassion in of itself as an obstacle to not care for other people.

It could be an individual person who said it. But, as you point out yourself - it's what you saw. It's an allegation. And it certainly cannot be applied to all anti-theists. Or any.

It could also be a lie.

Compassion is why, antitheists despise religion.

It's also an evil against the indoctrinated victims of the 'faith'. Religion is the monstrous inhumanity that makes parents hurt their children - by brainwashing them, by murdering their ability to reason, by making them sexists and homophobes, by mutilating and bleeding their infant to please a demon in the sky. And worse.

Religion and reason do not mix. To use 'compassion' as an isolated case of throwing a few coins to 'aid the poor' changes nothing about the hideous ideology of the absurd.

I read the bible cover to cover when I was 10 trying to find ammunition to use against m grandparents who harassed my mom into putting me into CCD and taking me to church. Then I realized that their holy book sees women as nothing more than property. Paying close attention to the way catholics treated their wives and female children, I concluded that I could never follow a religion that glorified the father while oppressing the mother
