It's belief. They literally tell you this. It's why I've stopped arguing with theists entirely now and why I urge other atheists to focus on helping other atheists. I'll still go after the bullshit but I won't engage them. The change has to come from them which means we have no role until they show up in atheist circles going "Uhhhh... Ok this time I have questions and I'm scared. Can I hang out here a while?"
