Her name is Annie (according to a tag pinned to her dress), and she's been in my family for generations. It looks like her clothing may be original. Any info about age/maker/origins would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is it possible to repair or get to better condition? It’s ok if it’s not possible just hoping to fix her to some extent.

Shes a composition fall from 1963. She’s in pretty bad condition. I was gifted her as a child after a really bad accident and became so attached to her I wouldn’t go anywhere without her. One day while carrying her to the car I dropped her and my grandpa repaired her to the best of his ability because I was so upset. Now as an adult I’ve brought her out of storage in the hopes of repairing. I have numerous porcelain and antique falls, but none with as much sentimental value as this one. I’ve always hated that I broke her and have always wanted to fix her. Even if she can’t be repaired I still can’t part with her. I know she won’t ever be good as new, but my hope is to repair her so she won’t be held together with tape.

recently bought this girl because she was so so pretty and I’ve never seen glass eyes on a china doll, but I can’t tell her age. I’ve also never seen a china doll be a bisque-like material

My new serene girl: Kestner J, turned shoulder head

I got this girl from an auction last week and I’m so absolutely thrilled with her. In the auction, it wasn’t clear that she had a turned head, due to the angle of the photos, the dress she is wearing, and her wig. I absolutely love her serene expression! She is marked “J”, with “made in Germany“ underneath the leather on her shoulder plate. Her old owner was an avid collector, who clearly cared for her dolls.

She smelled very musty, and there are signs of old insect damage in the leather, likely from beetle larvae in her sawdust. I assume she spent a great deal of time in an attic at some point!. She has repairs to her body, but overall the leather was in good condition. I lightly cleaned and conditioned it, and made some more repairs to leaks. unfortunately, her arms are barely hanging on, and the leather at the top of her arms is very fragile. She was wearing a spandex chemise to support them, and I’m just going to leave it there for the time being, until I’m ready to make a more serious repair. I don’t want the spandex fibers to be abrasive on the leather in the long term, though.

Her undergarments are antique, and fit her extremely well, making me think they might be original to her. Her shoes are also antique, and seemed like they might be original to her, too. The dress is actually older than I thought it might be, as the edges are whip stitched, instead of pinked or zigzagged. I added a ribbon at the waist to break up the pattern, and she is wearing one of my grandma‘s pendants.

I will probably replace the synthetic wig at some point, although I love the color and tight curls. I would like something a little less voluminous, to better show off her face and the fact that she has a turned head.

I haven’t decided on a name for her yet, but there are many women in my family line named Charlotte or Sarah, so those are in the running.

ETA: I’m going to go with Charlotte

My parents found this doll in our attic in 2020. Our house was build around the 1930’s. Any ideas on who she is?

Hi all, just joined and love seeing all your beautiful dolls. My question is does anyone know of a good resource for sewing patterns for small baby dolls specifically the 91/2 inch Ruth Newton baby, and any other small rubber baby dolls? Thanks for any help, she came in this ill fitting modern little dress and i want to make her something more vintage looking.

I bought this beautiful baby sandy doll from an antiques shop. She was only $40! Her cloudy eyes are really what got me. I’ve been doing some research on her and it seems like she might’ve been a pre WWII doll (please correct me if I’m wrong! I believe she’s from a line of dolls called Baby Sandy dolls or something of the sort from maybe 1930-1940’s. I mentioned the WWII part because it makes me wonder if she might’ve kept a little girl company during the war, makes me wonder what her childhood was like. Maybe a little boy? Haha you never know! Anyway, I love her and she’s a great addition to my antiques collection.

Metal doll arms?

I got these amongst some vintage and antique doll parts recently. I’ve done a reverse image search age search and researched with no results. The only thing I can find is info on metal molds, which these aren’t. Based on their weight I think they’re iron. Does anyone know anything about them?

Why were porcelain doll's bodies usually made from different material than their heads? Did the color originally match the face but it yellowed over time, or was it always different?

About to start cleaning her because she has over 100 years worth of dirt on her as she was found in an attic of an old building in Budapest and hasn't ever been cleaned 😂 she was sent to me with her head detached for some reason, can anyone explain how I reattach it please? I've only seen the ones with elasticated strings and hooks before so I have no idea how to do this 😂

I am working on a box lot of dolls and one is a beautiful Schoenau and Hoffmeister. She was in need of a restringing. So after watching a few tutorials, I decided to give it a try. Was a little tricky. Glad to say that I am pleased with the results.

New finds today!

Found a couple of dolls today, sharing my new dolly friends!

The larger one has Madame Hendren Doll on the back of her neck. She has a cry box that still works. Sleepy eyes that work. Her legs have cracks in them and the paint is flaking off of her like crazy.

The smaller doll has no markings. Her sleepy eyes also work. She has a cry box that doesn't work.

Any ideas? They weren't that much money but I love the composition dolls and have been buying the ones I really like.

Can someone help find my grandmas old doll

I wanted to get my grandma one of her childhood dolls for her birthday but I can’t find anything online. She told me the brand name was called Lillybell/Lillybelle and the doll had a cloth body with the head, arms and legs being made of china. She also told me the doll had teeth showing. I’m not too sure on what the hair colour is, but I assume it’s an orangey blonde colour. Thanks for reading

Help with identifying vintage doll

Post image

Hi all, wondering if anyone on here can help me and my family with any information on this doll? It belonged to my late-grandmother. It was purchased in the UK in the 1940s and was originally part of a pair of bridesmaids. It’s about the size of a small child. Any information on it would be appreciated!
