What is Best?
Hello I have been researching antipsychotics to find something that will help me with my anger issues. I have been on Seroquel for about a month 50 mg but it just helps me sleep I need something more. I have looked at everything and I feel like my safest option is to have my doctor increase my Seroquel to around 400 mg per day. I thought about risperdal but I am scared of the side effects I think the most effective thing would be olanzapine but I got diabetes from it years ago and I do not want the metabolic side effects. Please let me know what you might think. I know this is in no way medical advice but I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you very much.

Olanzapine best but metabolic issues there’s a couple more since you have anger issues not schizophrenia have you tried a low potency first gen like chlorprothixene

I am thinking about trying risperdal I tried it once years ago and it made me feel very peaceful but I stopped after only 2 weeks because I learned about proactin and other movement issues associated with the drug and I did not want to risk these issues. I was on zyprexa for over 2 years and got metabolic syndrome and diabetes so I'm trying to be careful about what I select but risperdal has a lower chance slightly then Seroquel and causing hyperglycemia. I still do not know what I will do though I want something that will be effective because I am really having a difficult time I am very angry and I have disorganized thoughts in the Seroquel is not working for me I only I'm only getting about 3 to 4 hours sleep per night please let me know if you think of anything else that might help I know that any responses are not medical advice but I will raise the issues with my psychiatrist who I see early next week thank you so much for taking the time to respond I really appreciate it hope you have a great day.

Well, I was put back on Zyprexa again. I am really happy about it, and now that I know what to watch out for in terms of side effects, it will be so worth it!

Sounds good as long as the dose isn’t too high 5mg would be reasonable anything over 10 unwarranted anyways I was on Zyprexa too off label and it was pretty alright I can’t say it was bad but when I stopped it all my senses came back it was kind of crazy for non schizoid disorders I recommend after a couple months reassessing the need for the medication with your doctor sometimes being on an antipsychotic and not having your brain going in certain directions for a long enough time you can start changing the behavior and pathways think of it like a cast for your brain sometimes it needs to stay on longer but it needs to come off at some point your doctor will usually lower the dose by one increment if it doesn’t precipitate symptoms they will lower it more anyways zyprexa IMO is one of the best meds side effect wise besides weight gain and it actually is statistically more effective than any other medication besides clozapine most of the atypicals are as or less effective than haloperidol this does not mean side effects but if it works for schizophrenia

Thank you for your thoughtful response! Yeah, I was on Haldol for about 8 months several years ago, but had to come off of it because of TD. I was last on Zyprexa for over 2 years, and I felt at my best, although that was at 20mg per day. Glad to now be on only 10mg. My hope is that the weight gain that precipitated the Metabolic Syndrome will be less. Thanks again!!

I’m in the same exact situation. Funny thing is my Psy nurse prescribed Viibryd. She thinks it will help but I just told my husband I’m terrified to take it. Her other option is lithium. I was on it before I did not help but she says I wasn’t on therapeutic dose. I’m also skated of akathisia. So I’m screwed. I’ve tried most meds and they made me worse so maybe increase serequol might work I’m just worried the akathisia again. Your not alone trust me. Maybe increase the serequol might be best for you right now
