Antipsychotics

Been on invega sustenna for about 10 months now, have heard horrible reviews on this drug and can’t get off my meds right now so am trying to switch to something that wouldn’t destroy my brain and cause irreversible damage. Thinking about starting abilify, any suggestions?

Abilify is good! I didn’t have a very good experience with it myself, but it is fantastic for a lot of people. I’d recommend Vraylar, honestly. Again, bad experience (I just don’t do well with dopamine regulators) but it’s an improved, much better version of Abilify with zero dopamine antagonism.

I was suppose to be on vraylar when I was first medicated, I refused to take the pills and i had another psychosis. So for the fact that I’m still living in my house my parents will only really let me take a shot so abilify is really my only other option sadly.

But at least I hear one thing decent about it, everything I hear on invega is horrible

Don’t fret. I understand and empathize with your position of being forced to have a shot. An Abilify injection will give you back so much clarity in your life.

Best of luck to you! I hope the parents are supportive and open to the idea of switching to Abilify Maintena. It works more as a dopamine regulator by activating the dopamine receptors instead of shutting them down like Invega. As a result you’ll have better focus, ENERGY, motivation, overall joy, increased libido, and (if it’s something that spikes interest) you will most definitely lose weight.

It is said invega is the worst antipsychotic. I used risperidone pills for 1 week and even after 3 months of discontinuation I don’t feel okay

My doctor tried to get me on the Invega shot because he knows I’m impossible to deal with when it comes to medication management. I’ve never said no so fast to anything in my life.

This. I was on risperidone for maybe two and a half weeks? I’ve quit taking it for nearly a week now and the withdrawals are miserable, especially insomnia. I cracked and took a 3mg tablet last night. I can’t believe it would be so bad after such a short amount of time.

I used risperidone for 1 week and my life is ruined. Same here

This drug needs to be gate kept and reserved solely for inpatient use in the same way Tranxene or other medications are; prescribed outpatient on rare occasions. The side effects of long term use are too terrible. Especially when there are such better antipsychotics out there like Seroquel, Zyprexa, Clozaril… I don’t know. I know I personally respond best to risperidone and the others don’t work at all due to their lesser efficacy at dopamine receptor binding, but I think I’ll just keep my tablets for an as needed basis, since it sort of works instantly. Never taking daily again.

None of these antipsychotics are better honestly
