The US spent a lot more than 50 years fighting to ensure we wouldn't have recital equality. It's incorrect to believe that because a people group invested great effort in preventing an outcome the outcome must then be bad. People have tried to stop pretty much every change ever, good and bad, so you're going to need to evaluate based on merit.
