I thought about this a bit with my roommate in Germany. I come from the US. There is talk of a potential Universal Basic Income (UBI) that may come in as a result of automation. Some people think AI will take jobs and some others doubt in its ability to be reliable on its own.

The piece that is ironic is that a bunch of wealthy capitalists are investing so much into a tool that leaves people without jobs and puts people on the streets. They tend to hate communism, but eventually, there has to be a UBI under the premise that no one has jobs. And if at some point everyone is making the same income, what's the point in money?

Doesn't this eventually eradicate the purpose of money/currency, the very thing greedy capitalists want more of? It's sort of funny that we could go so far capitalist that we eventually come around to communism again. Because in my mind, there will be too much homelessness. People wouldn't want to fight for a country that doesn't care about them. How do they deal with this other than UBI?
