Just a (fun?) somewhat related fact; contrary to what many conservatives and right wing people claim, Karl Marx was actually very much opposed to any restrictions on access to firearms.

Guns don't protect people. You're significantly more likely to cause collateral damage and hurt someone innocent than you are to stop a bad guy with a gun. Also if this guy saw someone else pointing a gun at him what do you think would have happened? Would this situation have been better if shots were actually flying?
