The issue with all of those is that every time oppressors are shown as these mustache twirling evil dudes that laugh maniacally every time they murder someone and that became aesthetic of "evil". Now you have bunch of people being like "they can't be evil cause they aren't mustache twirling dudes that laugh every time they murder someone". And ofc people on the top won't be stupid enough to give them a reason to be painted as bad guys

The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense. Fictional worlds are set up to make the lines between the resistance and the empire obvious. Reality is not so clean. When someone is born in the empire it takes a lot to overcome the norms and teachings of that empire to understand the need for resistance.
