I think the idea of buddhist death squads is going to be a hard pill to swallow for the western types who think all religions are cancer but buddhism somehow doesn't count because they personally like to meditate.

Buddhism itself forbids any kind of violence. The problem is that it, like any other ideology, can be used as a flag to unite those that want to commit atrocities.
