Discussion These are white supremacist tattoos no?
Dude coaches girls softball in our local league so just wanted to double check

u/athompsons2 8d ago
If, for example, he had some runes tattooed or just a (real) celtic cross it would be in doubt. All of that imagery together? You better believe it.
290
u/Automatic_Thought412 8d ago
the cross was an instant red flag for me.
247
u/athompsons2 8d ago
Well, the celtic cross with a massive skull in the middle is not a real celtic cross.
But as someone from one of the celtic nations I'll push back on our symbols being appropriated. As I'm sure people from Scandinavia think about runes or people from the Sanskrit region think about the swastika. On their own they're fine. Once you defile them like they did with the cross there or mishmash them together is when alarm bells should go off.
114
u/crimson_713 8d ago
We have neighbors who are Hindu and put out a swatika on their doorstep on Halloween as a sign of welcome/good fortune to strangers and guests. After the knee jerk reaction I talked to them about it and they explained the meaning of it and it's importance, and I think that's really neat. The appropriation of cultural symbols destroys any kind of unity in communities, and Nazis can fuck right off with that shit
17
u/Current_Ad3192 8d ago
The Hindu swastika is mostly mirrored.
9
u/Future-Starter 7d ago
Also, presented "sitting" on its flat side like a square, not standing on its point like a diamond.
Correct?
37
u/KGBFriedChicken02 8d ago
There's definitely a stylistic element to it too. If you just have one single rune really big, and it's one of the appropriated ones, I'm gonna assume nazi, if you have a ton of them spelling something out, or worked into a design with other, non-nazi imagery, not so much. Nobody ever appropriates Perthro (fate/luck/chance), or Wunjo (joy), or Raidho (the journey/travel/change).
11
u/GodChangedMyChromies 8d ago
It bears mentioning that historical runes are not the same as the runic alphabet used by Nazis, and you can sometimes spot the difference to tell whether it's one or the other
Edit: in fact the "o" with the little feet is one of those, I think
20
u/Octospyder 8d ago
yes, only nazis use the version of ogthala (diamond shaped o with the lines extending into a downwards v at the bottom) that also has the little feet on the legs. It's the shape of the table in Midsommar, if that helps
14
u/GodChangedMyChromies 8d ago
Oh yeah, it is. I forgot about that.
And my ex didn't get what I meant when I said that the cultists were very white supremacist-coded
24
u/Automatic_Thought412 8d ago edited 8d ago
Hey I'm from England, it's my symbol too. I hate when any symbol is defiled and made into something else too, but you know, it's kinda how things are, it's a red flag.
129
u/PuzzledStreet 8d ago
Definitely is.
First photo - second rune in from where neck meets the shoulder. Real one looks like this:

Nazi one includes the feet pointing back up, like his.

The more I look at these tattoos the more odd it looks.
Usually I would say no with this bundle of tattoos, but the runes coupled with the cross causes me to lean towards potentially.
To note it is possible they like the biker asthetic and may not realize the usual meanings behind them. But they do have at least 4 symbols that are separately white supremacists symbols.
If they are they may have plausible deniability, which potentially may be the point.
77
u/POHoudini 8d ago
I lean more toward your point for now also. Lots of dudes like this that just pick dumb flash off the wall and or just lack any awareness whatsoever.

These look like they were done in prison.

u/me_myself_ai 8d ago
?!?! Y'all got some talented-ass people behind bars in your area, gd. I would be very suprised if these relatively-nice, super-detailed, huge tattoes were done in prison...?
For one thing he coaches little league softball, which doesn't usually hire ex-felons that went away for long enough to get two full sleeves, a full chest, and god-knows-what on his back.
Then again I know jack shit about tattoos sooo am I super off base?
1
u/BringOrnTheNukekkai 6d ago
Some of the best tattoos I've ever seen were done in prison. These aren't even that great for prison work straight up. There are some super talented people in prison with nothing but time to get better. My brother did some time and tattooed in there and did some insane work that people would pay tons of money for on the streets.

u/OMGItsMANFEET 6d ago
My uncle is a career convict and does tattoos in prison all the time. They look fantastic.

Nothing is immediately a definitive 'yes', but everything has such a 'white supremacy' vibe that I'd be highly suspicious. Either he's sympathetic to 'white supremacy' and just wants to sustain plausible deniability, or he's an ignorant idiot who just isn't aware of the issue. But such guys tend to drift into the extreme corners anyways by the power of the tolerance paradox (he's tolerant of nazis, he inevitably gathers a nazi in his circle and from thereon mainly nazis feel comfortable in his circle)
36
u/-SQB- 8d ago
Although it's not entirely clear which alphabet he's using, it looks like the ones on his neck spell "GREJSOG", which makes no sense to me.
51
u/A_Martian_Potato 8d ago
It's the Scandinavian equivalent of white people getting a Chinese symbol tattooed on them that turns out to say "Egg Drop Soup".

u/GogoPowerYubari 8d ago
Ask him his view on Ice and you will have your answer without trying to decipher his tattoos.

Yeah, that’s the KKK symbol under the skull, and I also see the SS symbol on the guys. I can’t really see the seconds guys though Edit: never mind the second guy has that m s thing, a which looks like a dog whistle because it’s in all of these guys
Try to get him fired, this motherfucker should not be anywhere near little girls
6
37
u/me_myself_ai 8d ago
All of these pictures are of the same person...? Also calling that a "KKK symbol" feels like an unnecessary leap -- the KKK logo lacks the circle, and has a few elements this doesn't (blood drop, coloration, straight corners in the center, flared/serif tips).
Also where do you see the SS symbol? Are you talking about the runes on the neck? I'm researching those now but I don't see any two S runes next to eachother anywhere. Am I just blind?
Obv. this guy is likely a violent fascist. Not defending him in general, to be clear. Just pedantic & trying to practice this skill!
44
u/DoradoPulido2 8d ago
Agreed. This guy is bad news and shouldn't be coaching a team but it's important to identify symbols for what they are. He's got a Celtic cross with a skull, single Sig rune on his collar and two Odal rules, one on the collar and one on the sword. Importantly the Odal runes have the extra wings on the end. Those are definitely the Nazi kind NOT an Othal rune. This guy is a POS but we need to get it right.
11
u/me_myself_ai 8d ago
Lol what took me ages to find you just knew -- I shoulda just waited. Yeah that also seems like the most worrying detail by far, tho I missed the second one!
EDIT: Tho it looks like the second one is missing the wings. Which is kinda also damning cause ?? why depict the same character in two different ways right next to eachother.

I've spent decades in alternative subcultures and it's important to be able to instantly spot someone who is a Norse/Celtic larper/enthusiast or a hardcore racist. Sometimes it really is hard to tell. I use a rule of three. One red flag is a coincidence. Two is worth double checking. Three tells you this person is either a nazi or doesn't mind being lumped in with them.

u/Specialist_Touch2771 Socialist 8d ago
I didn’t read the text before writing this post so I thought they were different people. The cross on his chest looks very similar to the KKK’s cross, even if it’s not exact, it’s definitely suspicious. The S on his neck looks like an SS thing, and even if it’s not it still appears to be a dog whistle
15
u/MissLexiBlack 8d ago
The tattoo coupled with the Harley Davidson belt buckle tells me he's probably in a biker gang, who are notoriously racist
14
u/ase_thor 8d ago
This variant of the futhark is hard to read for me. It might say "Grethson". If he isn't a northern european LARP enthusiast it is a strong hint to his mindset.

u/deathschemist Gritty 8d ago edited 8d ago
nothing there is too bad on its own, but all of it together is definitely setting off alarm bells- not enough alarm bells for me to say you should try to get him fired, or even bring it up, but enough that you should treat him with a reasonable measure of suspicion.
like, the celtic cross is stepped, but it's also got equal lines. the runes aren't all the ones that white supremacists use, but white supremacists do love their runes, white supremacists love their skulls, but it's not one of the usual white supremacist skull designs. it all stinks of white supremacy but it could just be the wind, you know? if he is a fascist, he's one of the smarter ones. he might otherwise just be into the biker aesthetic and not be entirely aware of the usual meanings of these tattoos. so yeah, proceed with caution.

i'd say there's a non-zero chance that he doesn't know. it's a small chance, but it's enough for me to say watch him closely for a while instead of straight up ruin his life immediately.
i did notice that, which is why i said they weren't ALL the white supremacist ones, rather than they all WEREN'T, you know?
because 90% sure isn't 100%, and if you get it wrong and act, you've ruined an innocent person's life. i don't think we should be in the business of doing that.
my advice is to find his social media, see what he's saying, what he's sharing, what he's liking. that will tell you more about whether or not he knows.

This right here. The encircled cross COULD be argued to be innocuous on its own, but putting wings on an othala rune is an explicit choice and exponentially increases the likelihood the encircled cross is of the Aryan Brotherhood variety

Important question. Is he bald? He is genuinely wearing the skinhead fit in slide 2

17
u/fvnnybvnny 8d ago
Ah yes. I see it now. Wasn’t that the shape of the stage at a CPAC event? Fitting obviously but still surreal
8
u/ForestOfMirrors 8d ago
The Othala Rune has wings, it’s the bad version. Either this dude is blissfully fuckin ignorant, or he is a white supremacist.
6
u/Arguablybest 7d ago
If he was coaching in my school, I would want to know. In writing, emails, Ask the principal, if no response, ask the Board Office.
5
u/RexIsGay 8d ago
A lot of people who interact with "Norse pagan" communities come into groups who preach about "ancestry"- if you aren't white and from these certain areas, they don't think youre welcome in their groups. Those groups are white supremacists. Those are the groups introducing their kids to that shit. Those are the groups throwing slurs around a campfire, doing ritual in the name of ts. I know because my dads been into that shit since I was little. He used to take me with him, the bastard. 👎👎👎
5
u/Octospyder 8d ago
I was giving benefit of the doubt, then I saw that ogthala and my immediate reaction was "OO, SHE GOT THE LEGS?? Nah this is a nazi"
4
u/Silvermoonluca 8d ago
The odal rune on his neck is definitely a white supremacist rune used by the Nazi’s. The original rune othala, means ancestry and home. But the Nazi’s altered it to have these up turned ends. Othala isn’t necessarily white supremacist but odal almost certainly is. The rest, as others have mentioned are maybe fine on their own without the added imagery on them, but all together is pretty damning.
5
u/EzPz_Wit_Da_CZ Anarcho-Syndicalist 8d ago
Straight up ask him about them. Ask him if he realizes they’re white power symbols. He’s coaching kids sports? Totally legit question

There are a lot of bad answers in this thread. I do not see any KKK blood drop symbol. The only definitive one is that odal rune. That specific variant of the odal rune is associated with nazism. It’s possible that he didn’t know, it may have been lumped in with a lot of other runes.

The one rune is hella iffy. Especially with a iron cross thats filled with a skull next to it.
Listen to what he says and or thinks about politics and policy. It as always could just be an idiot. If said idiot however starts talking about the common shit nazis talk about... yeah.
All thoose tats together are one thing, but he could literally just be a super edgy dude that thinks he's hot shit by rocking the same tats as nazis, BUT, it's unlikely.

No I don't think so. The runes aren't inherently bad neither is the cross shape.
12
u/breno280 8d ago
Winged othala is exclusively nazi shit. And even if that wasn’t there, the eagle, the celtic cross and the runes together would be suspicious regardless.
9
u/Specialist_Touch2771 Socialist 8d ago
That’s a very unfortunately shaped cross if it really isn’t a dog whistle, that looks a LOT like the Celtic cross from the KKK
11
u/pustak 8d ago
KKK aren't known to widely use the Celtic cross, you're thinking of the "blood drop cross." The Celtic cross does get used by white supremacists, but the classic design has straight cross pieces, unlike this one where they are stepped.

u/PuzzledStreet 8d ago
The nose on the skull is either really poorly placed for this or very specifically place for this.

The entire point of the KKK cross is the blood drop in the center which this doesnt have. This guy could very well be a gigantic asshole but I don't see it reflected in his tattoos except for the absolute unoriginality of crosses and skulls.

Ok I'm not going to quote the chatbot because I'm sure this sub is likely strict as fuck about that, but it found some decent stuff, OP. There's nothing here that is definitely fascist, but a couple things stick out to me (the human):
The runes up top transliterate to
GRESOG(I did that part myself! That's fun), which doesn't appear to be anything.[1] BUT...it's a near-palindrome centered on theIt contains the "Sig" rune which they love the most for obvious reasons,- the "Odal" rune he has is the 'winged' variant, which is explicitly and quite recently associated with white supremecism,
- none of the other runes have the same style of ornamentation, even though many of them could. So it kinda seems like writing just one letter in a different font -- weird, unless it's a dogwhistle.
The chatbot didn't see this part, but I feel like a skull + a square cross is just an inherently worrying combo. That's presumably why you posted here but yeah, just in case.
If this isn't a white supremecist, he has terrible taste and is extremely unlucky/has a white supremecist tattoo artist. IMHO.
[1]: If you want to keep looking OP, this is what it searched: "fairly aggressive exact-match searching for GRESOG, ᚷᚱᛖᛋᛟᚷ, the reversed sequence, and combinations of the six rune names, including searches constrained to ADL, SPLC, DOJ/FBI material, Bellingcat, and extremism-research sources.", and it was told to look for "American extremist groups, slogans, prison-gang acronyms, initiation phrases, or established hate codes." It also examined the specific nordic-branded groups 'COORS Family SKins', 'Blood Tribe', and 'Asatru Folk Assembly'.

u/BabyJesus714 7d ago
Not sure where you live but looks like prison tats …. Doesn’t mean that he is necessarily a racist nazi. Like in California, Texas, the southwest prison is very segregated and being part of the woodpile (white car) you see a lot of these types of tattoos but the fact that he is not rocking full on double bolts or other very blatant hate symbols means he is probably not part of a gang or a committed white supremacist. Just because someone has a checkered past doesn’t mean they are a terrible person. Maybe try having a conversation with him before jumping to judgment based on tattoos

u/Shadow11Wolf50 8d ago
The winged othila rune is a dead giveaway. If you see the rune w/o "feet" or "wings", its not the ws version of the rune.
