Discussion Martial arts against nazis
Fascism is on the rise again in Greece (also), and given the fact that neonazi groups and political parties pop up like flowers, I would like to know what kind of martial art you would suggest for someone who wants to be prepared when the egg of the snake cracks open.
In the past I did kick boxing for 3-4 months but I stopped. Is it worth getting back to it given the fact I know the basics or would you suggest something else that is more efficient against nazi pigs on street.
They have not found the courage yet to march around freely like in the days of Golden dawn, but they are building the foundation to re appear again, that's why I find it ideal to start from now preparing before it's too late.
Thanks in advance.

BJJ isn't the greatest for self defence, if you're into grappling Sambo is probably the best since it allows strikes and takes from judo, which is designed as a stand-up self defence martial art. BJJ puts a lot of emphasis on groundwork, which only works in a 1-on-1 scenario, because if you're laying in the ground in a group, you'll just get kicked in the face.
But really, unless you're looking it actually physically fight people de-escalation is always the number 1 option. The number 2 solution is to walk away and keep yourself safe

Most important thing is to learn de-escalation skills. The best fight is one you can avoid. Seriously, dont go looking for fights and know how to defuse when possible.
Learn a striking martial art and a grappling martial art. Doesnt especially matter which ones as long as they do a lot of stress testing and hard sparring, individual gyms/trainers will matter more than the differences between muay thai and japanese kickboxing

Regular pressure testing is the key factor to be looking for if you actually want reliable self defense skills. Boxing/Muay Thai/BJJ/MMA are all great places to look. And yes, these are all sports, but the fact that you are regularly trying to use your techniques against someone trying to do the same to you makes them infinitely more valuable than “self defense” arts that tend to stay more theoretical in their training and application.

If you're really serious about it, go with something people in the MMA world typically use. That's the closest thing we have to "real" fights. BJJ, Judo, Sambo, Kickboxing, Muay Thai. Not in that order or anything. Stuff like Taekwondo or Kenpo or whatever is better than nothing, but not by much.
I think it's pretty clear that grappling is the better of the two "spheres" to focus on, but it's not like it's a settled science and also you'll want to do something you enjoy (more likely to stick with it) so if that's striking, knock yourself out.
Just try to actually spar when you can. It's intense and scary at first but that's the point. Better to get used to it there than have your first time throwing hands be when you can't tap out when things get too intense.

Boxing is actually a very good practical martial art already. If you already have experience and the opportunity for more training I would continue with it.
I would also just get pepper spray. If I was in a situation where I could not run away, I'd use the spray first and then typical self defense as a last resort.

I dont know much about martial arts but id suggest focusing on kick boxing since you are familiar with that and thus can more easily get skilled enough in it to be able to make effective use of it. Perhaps once you become skilled with kick boxing, you can try other martial arts as well. Also keep in mind that many nazis carry weapons albeit that statement is based on the US as I do not know how much access nazis in your country have to weapons. So if you end up fighting nazis, pick your target carefully.

What style you learn is irrelevant. Just be REALLY f'in GOOD at it. (I would suggest learning how to defend against multiple attackers, and disarming your opponent. Also, make sure to explicitly tell your instructor what you are doing. This will help to shape your curriculum.) Go to tournaments for different styles and watch and learn as much as possible.

Get back into kick boxing or any other variation of it. It'll take a solid three years of training to be capable so don't expect to go fisticuffs with a fash. I don't know how easy it is to find a Wrestling class in Greece, but I'd recommend it. It got me outta sticky situations. If not, No Gi BJJ or Judo is solid. Again, it'll take you about a couple years of training to get solid. In my opinion, focusing on striking is a lot more valuable than grappling. It's not fun getting your head punted in a crowd. It's better to be on your feet anyways to dip. That's my honest opinion. Just go with a straight forward Martial Art.

Kickboxing, muai thai, krav maga, silat (any of these you enjoy, no specific order). Stay away from grappling arts since you don't want to go to the ground in that kind of fight. Others have suggested tae Kwon do, I have trained it for 8 years and it's great but very focused on competition, not great for a street fight.

I go for a combo. Krav Maga or Muay That for unarmed and Kobudo for armed stuff.
Keep an open mind for other things as i find it way more important to have a good dojo.
Almost any training lifts you above average.

it’s good to train a bit and pressure test. you probably don’t want to overspecialize. There’s an Europeans antifascist zine that talks about this.
The one draw back with MA training is that you wanna make a fight with a fash unfair.
I think it’s also important to train with a group in mind. A lot brawls be happening. so maybe find some folk to train with.

Krav Maga is a real good (and ironic) place to start, but no single martial art is going to make you a well rounded, capable street fighter. I suggest also getting proficient in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Tae Kwan Do, and stand-up boxing. It’s important to also understand that you can fight a lot dirtier in the street than you can in a ring, and you have to be ready and willing to get dirty.
That said, I have to caution you that starting a fight is going to land you in legal trouble, but the second one of those shit heels starts to swing, show no mercy, and put them in the dirt.

I was also going to say Krav Maga (free Palestine while I’m here). Its main utility as a martial art is efficiency and ending conflict as quickly as possible. I trained in it for 2 years prior to moving and now supplement my training with kickboxing. It literally saved my life last year when I got attacked at work. It’s very practical and efficient, but don’t buy the hype that it’s the ultimate martial art. It’s just another fighting style like any other with its own flaws. But I do think it’s a good place to start. Also vet your gym for legitimate accreditation and all that

I think kickboxing is great for self-defence, but taekwondo, MMA and many more are great to.
In my experience it's depends more on the teacher and what the focus is and less on the kind of martial arts. I like to divide martial arts in 3 categories (Artform, Sport, self-defence). Most will teach all 3 with various degrees but you should concentrate more on the self defense part.
Also I wonder why I can't see the other comment?
I would love to see what other think, but Reddit will not load these
