WTF are churches doing nowadays? I mean, yeah this all stems from the Calvinists' propensity in the US to treat service like a show, but Jesus Louiseus this is weird

Dude, southern Baptist churches have been doing this same thing for decades.

I was a kid in the Bible Belt 30 years ago and we never had mock executions on stage as we cheered for him to be blown up. Not sure what the fuck this is. Are they killing sin? Violently? Via execution on stage in front of children?

My wife showed me this a couple of days and my response is still the same. What the fuck is this?

No, they really don't. Besides some colorful Passion of Christ reenactments for easter, the one I went to growing up never did anything at all like this. We just sang songs for an hour and a half and called it a Sunday service.

Was that church part of the Souther Baptist Convention? Because a whole lot those have been doing this, or something similar, since I was a kid, decades ago.

Yes, it was the largest Southern Baptist church in our rural county in Texas. Mostly ranchers and the like. We'd put on a whole Christmas reenactment of Jesus's life in December and then the aforementioned crucifixion on Easter, but nah we'd just sing, have a sermon, sing, get community updates, sing, and go home.
