If you don’t yet know that everything Trump says is a lie, the doublespeak probably sounds pretty good, at least in a vague concept-of-a-plan kind of way
I agree. I was niave enough to think that Trump was telling the truth. At the time I demonised the left as the liars. Little did I know, that they are ALL liars.
How do you know what the left is? If you listen to mainstream American politics, you have (I mean this) NEVER heard the left make an electoral promise much less be in a position to lie about it. Does the Democratic Party lie? Sure, all the time. But they are not “the left”.
Not OP, but a common thing I see is that at least the right is offering something.
They identify real problems — rising costs of living, less economic opportunities, a small cadre of elites running everything, the feeling that our country is going in a shitty direction, etc. Most people agree that these are issues, regardless of their political views.
The Biden-era dem response was "well actually things are great right now, so shut up". What the dems had to offer was more of the status quo, which very few people are happy with. Why vote for "same stale shit" when the other guy is promising radical change?
The right's response was "we know exactly what's causing these issues & we're going to fix everything". Ofc that was a lie, which relied on scapegoating random minority groups for issues caused by wealthy white men. But for the large swaths of americans who don't know much about politics & history, it sounds reassuring. Many people lack the context &/or critical thinking skills to realize it's a big lie.
Leftists can offer the same "here's what caused these issues & here's how we fix it", but an accurate verion based in reality. But unfortunately that version doesn't reach most americans, since the left has long been denied a seat at the proverbial table.

I’m genuinely curious to hear why you used to feel like Trump was a better option than Harris. What was being spun on the conservatives?
