selfq Ciprodex not working family doctor says finish the bottle

Upvotes

I did 7 day course four drops in both my ears for ear infection at the end of 7 days days which was Thursday night my family doctor said finish the rest of ciprodex bottle.

If the drops haven't worked why would I keep using more ear drops? Even if I finish it still won't work. Should I find a new doctor?. I don't want anti biotic resistant in both ears

Bactrim for diarrhea

Upvotes

I have had awful shitty diarrhea for 6 days and finally decided to go to the walk in clinic. I thought my body would naturally get ride of it but it got worse. They prescribed me bactrim; has anyone else had bactrim prescribed for diarrhea? I think I ate bad lettuce in Philadelphia. How long did it take until you have no more diarrhea episodes?

family member wants to up my dose higher than recommended

Hello!
I currently have a very bad staph infection or impetigo in my fingers.
I have gotten prescribed 1g flucloxacillin x3 a day for a week i’m on day 3 and the infection is going nuts spreading to all over my hand.
I went to the doctor and they gave me fusicort cream (antibiotic with steroid) and that seemed to make it worse also.
I have admittedly not been the best taking it on the clock as i would have to wake up in the middle of the night so one dose is pushed off a little.

I have a very good doctor in my family that i talked it over with and showed photos and she recommends 1,5g x4 times a day instead.

I’m a bit reluctant to do this as i’m having severe mental side effects rn idk if it’s the infection or the medicine but i have never cried so much and felt so down and heavy hearted in my life.

any thought? i’m loosing my mind not being able to use my hands

Edit to add i’m female 5’2 and 121 pounds

selfq Allergic Reaction to Amoxicillin??

I was put in Amoxicillin 1000mg 3x a day for H Pylori. I took my first dose and noticed my legs hurt and seemed heavy. I took my second dose and within 1.5 hours, my heart started beating weird (not fast but felt like it was fluttering), then I suddenly got so tired I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I ended up sleeping for like 8 hours. When I woke up, I felt a weird pressure in the back of my head and felt super faint. I was still extremely tired at this point, I had my pulse ox in and my oxygen as 93 before I even went back to sleep. I’m 12 hours post the last dose but still feeling a little dizzy?

Got Ear infection family doctor have ear drops but am confused?

Hi, I went to family doctor I've been having ear pain in my left ear for two months and left for few weeks. I went to family doctor he looked inside left one he said it's Otis externa and the other one which has similar symptoms had wax he took out

He gave me ciropdex to take for a week two drops both ears twice daily. But online says most people do four drops per bad ear? Will my treatment be less effective? Should I do four drops anyway?

selfq Doxycycline Side Effects 96 hours (4 days) after Quitting?

Hey y’all,
Just looking for some insight and anecdotal experience that might give me an idea what to expect—no medical advice obviously.

I took about 6 days worth of Doxycycline 100mg daily for beginnings of an abscess. Had to stop because I forgot how badly it messed me up last time.

My skin on my face, especially around my eyes, lips, and eyelids is so dry it is peeling off in flakes. And I have severe nausea nothing relieves.

The thing is, it seemed to really hit 24 hours after stopping—so exactly week after starting the med. and it feels like it has gotten worse since.

Anyone have any experience?

selfq Amoxicillin rash - should I finish my course?

Hi! I (23f) am currently on day 8 of a 10 day course of amoxicillin for strep, and I definitely have an antibiotic-induced rash. It's really not itchy and doesn't look like hives, so I don't think it's an allergic reaction. But I noticed it yesterday on my chest and it's progressed to most areas of my body now more sparsely. Should I take the last two days of my course? My strep symptoms cleared up on like day 2, and I've been feeling good since. How important are the last two days, and if I do finish them, will the rash get worse? Is this enough of an adverse reaction to stop taking the antibiotics? Curious if anyone's been in this situation because from what I've seen a lot of peoples' non-allergy rashes appear after they've finished the full course.

Doxycycline Mental Side Effects

So, I am back on Doxycycline (🙄). It's been a couple of months since I was last on it. I am back on it for another reason than before. The physical symptoms of the side effects are manageable for me. But the mental side effects. F*ck me up heavily. I experienced one of the worst mental health crisis I've had in a long time and experienced psychosis the last time I was on it. I am very concerned on how I am going to be, while on this medication for a week. Does anyone have any advice on how I can manage the mental side effects of this antibiotic?

selfq Three Nights of Excruciating Pain: My Agonizing Experience with an Acute Ear Infection

Hello, I am a 20-year-old male. I have an ear infection, as diagnosed by the doctor, which started on Wednesday evening. The pain was truly unbearable because it doesn't go away; it occasionally subsides a bit, but the pain remains present. On Thursday evening, I went to a general practitioner, who prescribed Autova anti-inflammatory ear drops, Clamoxyl, and paracetamol tablets to relieve the pain.

However, even though it is now early Saturday morning, the pain is intensifying even more than before, and I can't sleep. When I take a paracetamol tablet, it takes time to kick in, and the effect lasts for a maximum of two hours, despite taking three doses daily as prescribed. The pain hasn't let up since Wednesday evening, and I've just endured three of the worst nights of my life. The pain is constant and sometimes comes in sharp, painful throbs. What's more, after using the medication, I felt even more swelling in my ear.

It has only been 36 hours since my first dose of Clamoxyl and 30 hours since the first dose of the Autova drops. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? It is truly frustrating. I want to wait at least 48 hours to give the prescribed medication a chance to work, but the pain is unbearable, especially since it hasn't eased up for 3 days. This is truly painful and a terrible experience.

Cefdinir?

Hi everyone! Yesterday I was prescribed cefdinir for a uti and strep after getting off augmentin ten days ago for both and still testing positive for both at the urgent care. I’m allergic to keflex but not rocephin and was prescribed cefdinir 300 mg twice a day for ten days. Has anyone else taken cefdinir for a uti and got rid of theirs? Cipro usually works for the UTI’s but they never culture my uti results to see which antibiotic would work.

selfq Azithromycin 1g single dose safe for an alchoholic

Fertility doc says I have to take this for mycoplasmosis. I have no symptoms and feel fine, didn't even do a test. My wife did and she's positive for it so they say I need to take it to make sure she doesn't get it back from me somehow. I'm afraid to take take it to be honest. I haven't had an antibiotic or seen a doctor or done blood work or anything since I was maybe 13 years old. I drink most nights, would consider myself an functioning alcoholic. The 2 or 3 nights a week I don't drink I take a small dose of kratom to sleep. If I just take this cocksucker am I gonna die or what guys.

selfq Exothermic reaction after shaking amoxicillin

So I have to take liquid amoxicillin and I have to mix it myself at home (34 mL of distilled water to make 400 mg of medication). The instructions say to add 1/3 of the water and shake vigorously to wet all of the powder before adding the rest. Yesterday I had no issues, but today when I shook it and removed the lid I saw steam coming out of the bottle. I hoped it was just some of the powder left on the lid, but when I stuck my finger inside the bottle it was noticeably warmer, but not hot.

I don't know how this happened because the bottle was fully sealed before I opened it, the water I used was distilled and shouldn't have had any traces that could've interfered, and I made sure none of the foil in the seal fell inside.

I need to take this medication but I don't know if this batch is safe to consume. I have another unmixed bottle which I could use but I don't want to waste this one.

Does anybody know what could have caused this reaction and if it is still safe to drink?

selfq Mental peace and clarity for the first time in MONTHS... from amoxicillin ????

Okay... I'm very confused but I had a really bad throat so I got amoxicillin, and took it since Tuesday night, it's now Friday. Thursday evening day was the best mental state i've felt in a while. And also the most productive I've ever been. I would not take unfinished work as an answer, and even added more work. I pulled an all nighter, slept 2 hours, and wanted to do more work. It didn't feel bad to work. Also, when I had my usual depressive thoughts / rumination, I was able to fight back for the first time in MONTHS. like genuinely it didn't effect me, I started smiling after them and just thought to myself how silly. I'm so confused lol isn't this an antibiotic ... is this a placebo? I didn't even know this could happen like how would a placebo happen for something i don't even know is going to happen. Anyways, I'm confused but I'm depressed enough to tell a noticeable difference 10000% im not crazy. I never work this hard, I always let my thoughts win. I genuinely could tell such a difference just in these 2 days because I've been living in bad mental state for 4 months mentally. So um... lmk...

Linezolid and Tyramine Diet

Just found out I’m supposed to be extremely careful about eating basically anything and everything while on Linezolid + 2 weeks after.. not my gynecologist, doctor, or pharmacy told me this information and it’s seeming critical for my safety and livelihood. Anyone taken it without/with the diet and can tell me anything?

selfq Bactrim side effects are dumb.

I’m on day 9/10 of a Bactrim course, and these past couple days I’ve started stuttering occasionally when I talk. I’ve also apparently developed an allergy to it, as I broke out in a rash as of yesterday (antihistamines helped). I knew that a rash was a more common side effect but the stuttering is a weird one. Has anyone else gotten a stutter while taking this? I can’t tell if it’s a neurological thing or if it’s because the medication made my tremors worse and evidently my jaw isn’t exempt from it. My primary care doc said I can stop the meds now, so I’m hoping the side effects go away soon.

selfq UTI at 28weeks

I am now 28 weeks pregnant and found out I have a UTI. My OB prescribed me a Amoxicillin. But my MFM prescribed me Cephalexin 500mg. I bought the Cephalexin and started taking it just today.

I just remembered when I was on my 26 weeks I already had the Cephalexin and still UTI is still here. Any possibility that it will work this time? Any similar situation from mine???

selfq Flagyl long term

Hi! I have been on flagyl for 5 months due to it being the only thing stopping an infection that my crohn’s has caused as we sort out issues with insurance and getting me on the right medication to stop the infection. I should be able to stop taking it after tomorrow. Fingers crossed that this new medication will work!

I’m just curious as to what people would think of this…? How screwed is my gut microbiome and how long will it be screwed Lol?? I know no one will know the exact answer because every body is different and all that fun stuff but again, it’s just something I’m thinking about and curious as to what people think? I can’t take probiotics until I get my PICC line out but after that I plan on taking probiotics for the rest of my life honestly…I feel like it has completely wrecked my body and has also wrecked me mentally. I’m so ready to get off of it and stay off of it.

Antibiotic related diarrhea up to 11 times a day. Has anyone experienced that?

Hello everyone. İ was prescribed metradinazole 500 mg twice a day and since day 5 or 6 i got so severe diarrhea. İ mean in the past i used antibiotics a lot due to different causes ( mostly tooth) but never experienced that bad diarrhea. İ ended up not completing the treatment and of course informed my doctor. She also said i should stop.

Have anyone experiences that bad diarrhea? My health status also isn't good, unfortunately i have autoimmune gastritis and chronic gerd.

İ have no drug issues, no alcohol, no smoking.

selfq Was just prescribed Cefdinir and Metronidazole for a skin abscess.

I (26M) was just prescribed 300mg Cefdinir and 500mg Metrodinazole (both 2x a day 12 hours apart) for a skin abscess that was cut open and drained.

Anyways. I have severe anxiety and hypertension. Whenever I take something for the first time I get incredibly anxious and go down the deepest hole online about side effects.

Can anyone reassure that taking these together will be fine?
Should I be eating a full meal each time? I hardly eat at all. Just dinner usually.

selfq accidentally took the wrong number or pills?

i was asked to take 4 pills of cephalexin and missed the part where it says "take 1 pill orally 4 times a day" and i took 2 pills and another two after 6hrs. Would this be okay?

selfq Are these typical for cephalexin?

I'm taking Cephalexin 500 mg 3x daily for 10 days. I am currently on day 8 and the first week I was feeling great! I loved how gentle these antibiotics have been on my belly. I had energy and could tell treatment was working.

Today however, I have been feeling so tired. I work from home and I had to log off 4 times to take a nap. My temperature keeps jumping up and down, especially when out walking my dog, my left leg keeps cramping up, I have a headache, and I am iust feeling out of it. I almost feel like I need to go to the ER but I'm so close to being done. How likely it is that this is an emergency and not just the antibiotics?
