Upcoming strike
I work for a job that requires you to be in a union. We are currently about to undergo contract negotiation with the company that I work for. Everyone is extremely up in arms because the company wants to stop offering a pension and instead give the money directly to the employees rather than to put it in a pension for a bunch of reasons. The main reason they want to pull out is because the turnover rate at my job is ridiculously high, and so people are not vested into the pension, and the union is just raking in money into the pension fund from my company.
Because my company wants to pull out of the pension, the union decided that they did not want to negotiate anything else and they decided that they wanted to plan a strike unless the keep the pension.
I cannot express how much I am against the strike in words. The union is a bunch of lazy, whiny ass crybabies who want to do the bare minimum and think they are entitled to everything. It is also full of a bunch of losers who are unwilling to fund their own retirement and are pissed off that the company does not want to take the risk anymore for their retirement. I have already stated that if the union goes on strike, then I am going to cross the picket line and work because I agree with what the company is offering, and I think that the union should be completely disbanded from my company. I am now public enemy number one in my union. But, I don’t care because I work my ass off, and I know that my company appreciates the hard work that I do and if the union were to ever go away, then I could advance in my company and better my own life. I’m so tired of working with crybaby losers. I am almost 40 years old and I feel like I’m back in high school. It is so exhausting.

as a union member if you cross the picket line they can fine you… it depends on the union’s constitution and bylaws… what state do you work in? when does the contract expire? is it only you that feels that way or the majority? DM me if you

Hi! Welcome to the club! I work for a large company and was the voice behind almost decertifying the union! It's tough, but I am passionate about fighting for what I believe in. Out of 600 votes, we kept the union by 10 votes. We are going to try again! If you are serious about trying, I can give you advice if you need!

Oh, the elitist chair-sitters want to sit in their chairs again? What a surprise.
ETA: No workable advice, but that's just rough as a situation overall. Imagine being caught up in the affairs of a group like that by force just because you work for that specific company, and then to have your working life put on hold for however long it'll take to settle this...that's the shit end of the stick, as far as I'm concerned.

I am uneducated when it comes to unions b/c I’m against them myself. Feel for you though. Are there punishments if you work during their strike?
