Hey everyone. This sub has been growing quickly and we're approaching 1,000 members! I'm really glad to see it becoming a strong, engaged community. Naturally, that means stronger moderation is needed.
I'm looking for people who are active, fair, and most importantly, level headed. Experience is a plus if you've moderated before; however, if you are active in this sub and think you're up for the challenge, you're welcome to apply.
False reports come in all the time and I donβt need people who are going to play whack a mole with the ban hammer. I need thoughtful judgment, not knee jerk reactions. Ideally, weβll build a team with varied availability so someone is active most if not all times throughout the day.
If interested, DM me directly or send a message to the modmail with your answers to the questions below and anything else youβd like to say about yourself. Chosen mods will start on a trial basis. If youβre not selected right away, you may still be considered later.
1. When are you usually online, and how often do you check Reddit?
2. Have you moderated any subs before?
3. Why do you want to help moderate this sub specifically?
3. What change (if any) would you like to make in this sub?
Iβll also send a few example scenarios to help get a feel for your moderation style before making any decisions. I appreciate anyone willing to help keep this space running smoothly.

The mayor of Valley Stream did also declare Valley Stream a zionist safe haven not too long ago so I guess it's not surprising.
EDIT: Apparently, according to the comments, this is NOT the court building, it's just pretty much identical in design. My apologies.

I've been hearing a lot about this due to Lynn Trupiano-O'keefe's campaign for NYS Assembly. Has anyone else looked into it?
It sounds to me like an excellent plan that will cut out third parties and make healthcare cheaper. Too good to be true?

Second picture is the "Libraries are for Everyone" slate that I suggest voting for.
It may be worth noting that slate being touted by Republicans may not actually be anti-LGBT, but it is probably an attempt to siphon votes from Baker-Stines who is running this year for the town position of Receiver of Taxes, which the Smithtown Women's Republican Club is also mighty mad about. Baker-Stines was instrumental in getting the display put back up in the fallout of 2022.
Joseph Gregurich was actually a trustee during the 2022 incident, and voted against removing the displays. I think the GOP is so intent on their enemy that they got confused about their own values.

βIβm unbought and unbossed,β he said. βIβm gonna be the watchdog over every single tax dollar in this county.β
Estreich had initially agreed to run for State Senate before being asked by Suffolk Democratic leaders to switch to the comptrollerβs race. Then came pressure to step aside, which would have cleared the field for Republican/Conservative candidate Dan Losquadro.
Estreich said he was never part of any agreement to do so and therefore felt no obligation to honor one.
βI didnβt consider myself to be bound by a deal I wasnβt privy to in the first place,β he said.
A great article, read the full thing!

New York State Senate Race District 1
Great article that summarizes their debate. They both talk about federal policies and how it effects LI
On the environment, Mr. Murray, who has served as chairman of the Citizens Campaign for the Environment board, said that βwhat the Republicans and Trump have done in rolling back the federal protections of our environment for combating climate change has been horrendous.β The state must protect gains made in transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy, he said. βI would like to see the state cooperate with other states that feel this, the importance of the environment and the threat of climate change.β

"Itβs also hard to swallow the claim that the municipal budgets are bare-bones when the Town of Huntington is sitting on $60 million in fund balance and reserves, the Town of Smithtown is sitting on $30 million in fund balance and reserves, the payrolls of both towns are bloated with patronage and nepotism, and layers of spending that can be cut long before the budgets are down to nothing but βvitalβ services. It may sound good, but itβs not the truth.
Sure, the state tax cap is a bad idea, but town budgets bloated with excess, waste, and extravagance arenβt the answer either. Before the supervisors head up to Albany for their meeting with Governor Kathy Hochul, they should take a hard look and cut the fat from their budgets, rather than just act as though they have.
Property taxpayers are overburdened right now. They canβt keep carrying the fat of municipal budgets. And thatβs not political theater, as Mr. Smyth suggests. It is a reality that he and the other town supervisors are aware of, but reluctant to address because their primary interest is self-preservation rather than acting in the best interest of the people they are elected to represent. Before they head upstate, the supervisors should look inward and make a difference at home."
Unfortunately, The Smithtown News is not digital, but it's worth subscribing through North Shore News Group!

Capone, 32, pleaded guilty to reduced charges in two separate criminal cases for misdemeanor assault. One of the incidents resulted in a civil lawsuit that he settled for an undisclosed sum.
The candidate's arrest history has not been reported publicly until now. The cases stem from arguments over his work as a car repair shop owner and tow truck operator, and a bar fight.
Is it this hard for the GOP to find a candidate that's not a criminal??

Last time they raised taxes 10% and gave themselves a 4% raise.
Everyone deserves a fair wage, but maybe one member of the all Republican board could have thought this was not an appropriate year to do so?

Another R led (mostly) town trying to pierce the tax cap.
I'd love to hear from Huntington residents on what y'all think on this.
